It is a bit strange though that they did reject his CV multiple times until he changed his name. To me the name he chose sounds white/Polish and with stereotypes applied I would think that Polish people have a reputation for being hard working

Its nothing more than coincidence playing into his massive shoulder chip

I could accept it being coincidence (or a different recruiter) if he'd just done it twice. Multiple rejections with his real name and then interview the FIRST time using an alternative name seems like more than coincidence and assuming all other elements of the application were the same, it seems likely to be the name. Though I do agree with Niamh above - hard to prove the race element from one example, there might be another reason for the name-bias. Having been involved in recruitment... sadly, if it's all one recruiter it could be as simple as them personally not liking the name "Dwight", and arbitrarily rejecting.

I'm not saying it isn't because of race though -- unfortunately it absolutely IS the reason a lot of the time. Just saying that it will probably be hard to prove without multiple examples of the same thing happening with different names.

At the very least it shows a prejudice based on whatever type of person he associates with that name so is discrimination regardless

“My Hidden Race”, Anyika Onuora. Read the whole book (including the part where Anyika has to re-apply to jobs with a white-sounding name when she’s living in London, and lo-and-behold gets the job, but doesn’t when using her real name) and then we can talk. I know that you already know the truth deep-down but read about her experiences and how difficult that was for her before calling bluff even on a baiting level. You are so not funny.

I have the latest Tommy Robinson book to read and then I have the new one from Paul Golding (The Battle for Britain) so I'm pretty backed up with books at mo, but thanks for the recommendation

Tommy Robinson and Paul Golding eh? Surely there's not much in those books that would surprise or shock you. Try a book that may tell you something you didn't know.

You have no idea how much that rather flippant statement says, or should I say, confirms about you. :joker:

GiRTh 15-07-2024 06:25 PM

Are we saying this thread that if it happened once then OK but multiple time means its racist. Surely not.

BTW the name Dwight Jackson, to me, very much says black man. Especially in the USA. Google it and see what comes up.

The facepalm made me look silly did it? OK if you say so mate

When it comes to race LT. I'm so so sorry but it's one of those - I've forgotten more etc - In your dreams you make me silly in reality you dont know what you're talking about, ever, when it comes to race. All I need to do is keep you talking and eventually you say something. You know this, so I cant wait for your next reply.

haven't you admitted on here that you dont know and have never known any black people? There you go. I need say no more.

Please reply. Please keep this going.

Seriously, My Hidden Race is a book I’d implore everyone to read.

It's bizarre but frankly not surprising

I’m sure you have a basic level of “racism is wrong” awareness but your mode of privilege makes you dismiss the extent of other people’s suffering, experiences and determination to prove racial discrimination that they have every right to prove. You might not see it yourself in yourself but it’s very obvious to anyone who’s more aware of the complexities of racism.

Too much assurance in white male privilege, conscious or unconscious, can block you from seeing the full truth and that’s a fact. You’re nowhere near as bad as LT (who deliberately baits and puts a racist narrative on everything involving people of colour) but you do make blunders. You might not be able to see it but that’s kinda the point. Always naively looking for a debate, at whatever cost, no-matter who you subconsciously trample on in the process. It’s very bad.

Oh no, Sky Sports News lingo has entered TIBB.:joker:

Being serious though, I'm glad that he went for the job under a different name, as it proves his case that he was being discriminated against, rather than claiming it with no evidence.

I 100% agree.

If I was the recruiter, I would 100% think that Dwight Jackson is a black man... And then reject his application.:hehe:

But seriously, I would hazard a strong guess that Dwight Jackson is a black person if I were the recruiter.

It is a real thing, though, Mock. It goes well beyond Sky Sports.

I just hate the term white privilege, it's a me thing more than anything else.

I get what you're saying though, and it is clear that Dwight was ticking someone off at this Hotel because of his name.

So personally I'm glad that he pursued the case.
