Not that this doesn't happen Parmy - in fact I once had to call police out for a poor chap trying to kick in windows because he was out on conditional release but wanted to go back to prison - but stabbing a child is a little bit beyond that... I doubt he did it because he wanted room & board.

Occam's Razor is useful Parmy - if a possibility seems unlikely or unrealistic then the most efficient thing to do is set it aside as false and only return to it if you don't find a more obvious or likely explanation. Spending unnecessary time & energy on wildcard theories is definitely something that makes things harder to figure out.

you can get locked up for much less than murdering a child, so i don't think that is a valid point

Hopefully it's soon to change now to help ease the prison population.

However you are right, it's been really easier over the last couple of decades to get people locked up for financial crimes, rather than violent ones.
