The Ryan spoon comment, just shows you're not allowed to say anything these days. I'll be honest ...I didn't even see her t-shirt as anything political/ controversial ,it just looked like a watermelon,I've seen a ton of watermelon design in clothing which are innocent enough. But the problem now is ...is wearing a watermelon now seen as some secret political statement? .

In Ali's case she's known to do this ...as she will likely be very 'pro Palestine' , but maybe the outrage wouldn't have been the same if another housemate wore that same t-shirt.

BB producer's removing the episode from ITVX was OTT .

I 100% agree with everything that you've said.

I also didn't know the Watermelon T-Shirt was a reference to the Israel versus Palestine conflict either.

…as he says, I don’t know how long this will stay up…(…or if the vid has been posted…)…but shows a clip of the unedited footage with Ali wearing the t shirt and then with the t shirt watermelon image blacked out…

…it does seem odd to take it off air to edit out, essentially censor when the whole concept is BigBrother …but then they do and have always censored content, haven’t they…

…tbf, though …it isn’t a ‘secret’ political statement even though many of us might not have been aware of it…Im not commenting on her own views with regard to the subject …only that if I start to type in ‘watermelon t shirt…’…the search immediately connects Palestine …

It's just really bizarre how a watermelon t-shirt can cause this much controversy. I wonder if BB have secretly said anything to Ali , censoring it is a bit much.

…I’m just googling because I wasn’t aware of any political connection as I don’t think any or many of us would be…this is a wiki page that came up…

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Waterm...%20territories.

I honestly did not know about the politics connotations / symbolism,as I've seen so many casual watermelon designs on everything & not just t-shirts,but kids stuff . It was something I never gave a thought to , It just passively went by me , like a SpongeBob squepants PJ
set or something.

Yeah I was just googling about it aswell, I've learnt something new . And I can see it in full details now.

…I guess for anyone who was aware of a connection with watermelon then they may be drawn to it in terms of the shape as well and realised immediately…but not so for anyone who wasn’t aware because all we would see is a watermelon on a t shirt which in itself has no political slant at all…it’s the shape that’s the indicator, isn’t it…

Fgs.

Nah, she's already said she wants to get into activism and it isn't the first t shirt with some sort of message like that on it.

Agree with this but also see why ITV felt like they had to censor it, I don't think its right to censor people but they probably don't want to look like they're promoting either side and cause up roar. Tbf though the fact that they are doing that probably helped promote the message more as I think for a lot of people the t shirt wouldn't even have registered ( me included) now we all know what it means [emoji23]

I am just amazed at the range of performative protest tee shirts this woman has. She is the type of superficial Guardian reading dupe that changes her facebook profile every month to the current thing in order to signal to her chums what a great person she is.

Her only other t-shirt with a message was supporting transgender people, I don't see how that makes her look performative. She wants to be on the correct side of history.

LOL

some people are so easily triggered

Cherie 24-10-2024 08:13 AM

I didn't think the issue was the melon itself but that it was done as a map of Israel which would signify Israel being wiped out, look if Jews found it anti semetic who are we to judge, if I saw something that as anti Irish I would imagine many people who are not Irish would not have an issue with it

Controversially though (and I'm not just saying this to be nasty towards the Jewish) but every group/community it feels like is looking for any excuse to be offended by something these days.

This from Ali is pretty tame, especially compared to the Nazi & Hamas loving people that are in our society.

Beso 24-10-2024 08:20 AM

Shes just your typical virtual signalling lefty.

Ammi 24-10-2024 08:21 AM

…apparently this garnered controversy not long ago, I’m not sure if that was when the meaning became more known …/…I don’t follow social media or celebrity stuff so I wasn’t familiar with this when it gained media attention…

weelll I think if you are sporting a tshirt that promotes a whole nation being wiped out then Jews have a right to be offended dont you think? if it were the other way round and she was wearing a tshirt that promoted Palestine being wiped out dont you think they would have a case to be offended? Many Israelis do not support Netanyahu they dont deserve to be wiped out?

Thats like saying during the Iraq war which most Britons didnt agree with that the UK should have been wiped out ...no?

Ammi 24-10-2024 08:52 AM

…whatever someone’s beliefs that they hold, it’s something they hold in their mind and in their heart and not on their clothing…I mean the only statement that really makes is that rather than think of donating to something that they believe in, they’ll donate to a clothing manufacturer and does that manufacturers hold the same ethics as them also…?…anyway, I just in general don’t get the need to either buy or wear a political slogan t shirt because I suspect so many are made for profit and not for belief reasons…

I agree Ammi

although in my youth I had a T shirt that said

'For Fox Sake, Stop the Hunt'

which I was very proud of

arista 24-10-2024 08:56 AM

Remove the T-Shirt
from the show.

Problem Solved

Jessica. 24-10-2024 09:00 AM

I don't know anyone who supports Palestine that wants to wipe out Israel, where are people getting that idea? We just want a ceasefire.
