I think I'm ready for the snip to become a real girl.

It's worth it just to see how big your scrotum can really get.

Fingers crossed … I find that listening to happy pop music helps but you can’t force it sadly

I go through long , dark periods then suddenly I’ll hear an uptempo, catchy pop song and I suddenly feel much better.. it just has to happen though . I can’t just play a happy tune and “ hey presto ! “

I'm exactly the same with Music.

I can't for example play a Steps song if I'm not in the cheery kind of mood.

Ditto !

I’m sure there’s some fancy psychological explanation for this idiosyncrasy

…(..I think…)…that sometime we have to ‘lean into’ emotions and sometimes we have to ‘counter them with a balance’…and what determines which one…?…is dependant on other factors…but sometimes, I feel that we aren’t yet ‘done’ with an emotion to be able to ‘exorcise’ it and find that balance, yet…so we’re drawn to more ‘safe places’ of feeling it…like songs and movies etc…we can feel what we need to feel from ‘safe standpoint’….

You're probably right tbh, Ammi.

 its scary but if you both want it, it will be great

You know life is tough…my son has been to the darkest place this year but with the help of a good GP where he now lives and with the help of anti depressants and something to give him a good nights sleep he has turned his life around. It’s still early days and he is not working in his usual environment as a skilled worker…but that is his choice to be rid of the pressure atm…and it’s doing him good.
I witness so many people in my working environment going through this struggle…and some from a very young age…it’s heartbreaking.
So for all of you struggling…get help..don’t feel ashamed and there is medication available to help lift you out of that dark place and help get your life back on track.

Speaking for myself.. after 50 years of ‘struggling’ with depression it has become part of who I am - sounds crazy but I am used to feeling this way … I do get the occasional, short lived periods of exuberance and happiness so its not all bad .

I’m old fashioned and we have always been told to ‘get a grip’ or similar- especially us guys ..

I also have a phobia about taking medication and the side effects .. plus I have read so many negative things about antidepressants ..

…I’m so pleased that your son is looking at life from a different side now…there is so much that he will have learned from going to that darkest place and that will have discovered so many self strengths in himself also that will help him going forward …Im glad that he’s had such great medical support because sadly, so many don’t have that…and I’m glad that he’s able to relieve pressure in his work days by taking on a different role…don’t underestimate the part that his close family circle have made also and that he’s obviously felt the support from his parents also…and that is absolutely no small thing, that you are so much a part of those tracks that he’s getting back on……good luck with your move, your new chapter will find you when that right home is there also…exciting year ahead……

Thank you Ammi...unfortunately his GP here dismissed his cries for help 3 years ago. Finally things took its toll back in April. Its been the worst year of our lives...he was just crying out for help. Now he has a new GP in a different area and she has just been brilliant..he now has this medication...he sleeps well and has no more anxiety. We have our son 'back'..we speak everyday as he now lives independantly in a house share and he is so positive. I wont lie...it took its toll on me, my husband and my other son but we got through it but it takes a lot of strength from everyone concerned....it could all have had a very different ending.

Sadly this is happening everywhere...

…its just incredible the difference that a GP can make…thats not how it should be but it is how it is…and yeah, it really has been the whole family in crises as well…i completely understand the impact on you and your husband as well and I’m so glad that you're actually seeing him ‘returning’ more and more …it could have been so different as you say …you and your husband are a huge part in making it what it is now/…in ensuring this outcome …its so sad that you’ve all had to go through it but you’ve realised so much strength as a family also….now its your time, still daunting with a big house move and life change…?…but that daunting is so much an exciting time as well and its all about you both as a couple, this is your time…..
