If there's some obscure thing that seems fun or useful, or something with a personal touch, basically.

MiL has given us all a budget of £100 and asked us to pick our own gifts however so I'm currently pondering, "What is around £100 that I'd like, but wouldn't actually spend £100 on otherwise".

Low-key tempted to ask for £100 worth of plain socks just for the meme.

…100 Scratch cards…?…actually it would probably be only 50 or even less now, I’m really not sure how much they are anymore…

…with the other gifts…?…we don’t always all buy for everyone…we’ll sometimes do a secret Santa so only buy for one person with a money limit of say £25 or something….and see who can get the most inventive/weird/annoying and other descriptive gift…sometimes it’ll be a themed gift…like it has to be from a charity shop or from eBay…it’s just a bit more fun than socks…although yeah, I know…what could be more fun than socks, right…

Well it looks like a really big family get together is on the cards this year.
Much more than usual.

I've never been one for presents, I prefer to give to people all year round as and when they need something or just to give them something anyway.

Good food, great company a celebration of things now and past is what I want this year.
There's many I wish were still here, with so many very close relatives and friends lost over the last 8 years.
Including Mum and Dad.

So they will be in my thoughts and celebrations over Christmas.
So the memories I have of them and also the memories of us near ALL being together this Christmas, will mean far more than any present or presents ever could.

….awwww, Joey…you said it all yourself, really….…you’ll have them with you in your thoughts and in your celebrations and in knowing how much joy it would have brought them in seeing you all together and building the memories of this time…as you say, a wonderful Christmas and I know that’s what you’ll have……

The true spirit of Christmas for me Joey.
Chatting about people who have left us is a lovely way to remember them fondly.

This, to me, is why Scottish people place far greater importance on New Year. It's about looking back, remembering those lost and looking forward to the hopes and dreams for the future

The opposite for me. I’d rather be with my OH only and away from as many people as possible.

Nothing I want for Christmas. I’ve told everyone not to worry about me this year. I’ll get my mum and dad, Nan and two nieces something. Christmas is too stressful for me now I have an in law family now too.

Me and OH are going to Australia for a month in February so we’re good
