Mmdifferences in opinion here. I'll see it later or tomorrow and see what I think.
She is very inexperienced really, certainly at this sort of thing. However she was chosen and got the job. They must have liked what they saw. I thought Gloria Hunneyford was overwhelming the other day, too fond of her own voice. I agree that I felt a bit uncomfortable at times watching the Monday programme. Let's hope she finds her feet quickly and socks it to them. I cannot stand kerry Mc Fadden, however I know this dates to her getting a job reporting on the old Channel 5 programme Exclusive, when Mr Clarke didn't! If it doesn't work out, she can still get her salon going for a year or so and get on with having a family. |
I think part of the problem is that Loose Women is a lunchtime opinion based show talking about topical issues.
Helen has some great opinions but isn't very good at explaining why she thinks certain things. Yesterday, they were talking about a prostitute and Helen said "Being paid money for sex, that's wrong!" but couldn't back it up with an argument as to why she thought this. When she is chatting and interviewing she is playing to her strengths and comes across as bubbly and amusing! :hello::hello: |
Although I love to see Helen on tv I do see your point chilledbootz,at times she was a bit excited but I'm sure this is because she didn't make much of an impact the first time she was on.
I remember her being quite awkward at first on Lorraine so given time I'm sure she will get the balance right:thumbs: I still thought that Alex was horrible to her though she looked quite hurt and it wasn't up to him to say something like that,I notice Kerry Mcfadden has calmed down since shes been on she at times has nearly lost it on that show so I'm sure Helen will settle into it:thumbs: I think she should be proud of herself she did well:hello::hello::hello: |
chilledbootz
I believe you are very mistaken in thinking Helen shoud be off out TV screens. Helen was herself. That's the whole point of loose women. Frank talk and people who are not afraid of talking and behaving in a controversial way. The natural way that Helen was. Our TV screens needs more of this not less. It seems Helen can't do right from wrong. If she is loud some one doesn't like it. If she is quiet some one will say she hasn't the ability. Just look at the behavour of other loose women. They too make fools of themselves and yes some are even loud. What do you want loose women to be!!! Another flat lining type BB4......No thank you..Go Helen Go show them all..... |
Bananarama I take your point, but from my point of view I found the whole show incredibly uncomfortable. It made me physically cringe for an hour!! Believe me I don't want to feel this way about one of H's tv projects but i'm afraid I do. If you are enjoying it then great but i'm just offering an opinion. And unlike Helen i've thought very hard about it!!

Well, at last I have seen the programme in question. I went into it with low expectations and I have to say I thought Helen was EXACTLY herself. As I said earlier, they knew exactly what they were taking on beforehand: a brash, loud, effervescent and immensely likeable girl.
That's what she is and how she appears to be. I thought she was fine. OH thought she was fine, and he is pretty critical at the best of times. He actually enjoyed the programme against his will because he loves discussions. I also thought Alex was just Alex with her, and I didn't detect any animosity. The po faced woman next to Helen was the only one who I thought gave her a bit of a look, mostly because she likes to hear her own voice I think. This time helen was actually able to speak, unlike when Gloria (is this what I am now reduced to?) Honeyford sat next to her. Kerry Chipshop has more experience in these situations, and is one of the established regulars, as all of the others were. Helen held her own. We can't expect Helen to come out and be Joan Bakewell. She may have held views which were diverse from the others, but that is what a discussion is all about. Helen has the ability to voice exactly what she thinks, unfettered by constraints such as 'is this the politically correct thing to say now?' I really hope everyone is able to give her a chance. I am sure they hold mauritoriums after each session, and if they didn't like something about Helen, she will find out. She can learn from the experience. She struck me as being as she was first week in the house: compensating for insecurity by being really loud. She then settled down and relaxed and we grew to love her. There is a smugness about Kerry which is uncomfortable. She has effortless profile now, being half of a famous couple, and she has the confidence which motherhood brings. People may criticise Helen for having no particular talent, but Atomic Kitten have gone from strength to strength without Kerry, her husband Bryan has already strayed, and I don't see much of a future for him as a solo artist when Westlife ultimately stop. Helen, on the other hand has still managed to get a place on this programme with a significant learning disorder, no hit singles under her belt, and a partner who actively shuns the limelight. She isn't at all 'showbiz', she lives in a very nice but unspectacular flat in green and leafy suburbia (and YES, I actually found it yesterday on my way home! They were out :bawling:), she has her feet firmly on the ground and is establishing herself with her own business. If 'Losse Women' doesn't work out, she will shrug her shoulders and say OK, and she will have someone to go home to who will always think she is a star. I don't think any of that is a reason to despair. Plus the fact I actually enjoyed the programme! They could do a lot worse than to let her develop in this. It is far better experience than holding up a few bottles of cream and having a facial. Good luck Helen! |
ROB. Iam so relieved that you still back Helen. I could see nothing significantly wrong with her performance. Those that look in a none partial way will find something wrong with any one of the loose women presenters.
So why should Helen be the one picked out as being the one to run away and hang up her media clothes and flee immediately back to cutting hair. She can do both as the case arises. After all she will be an employer this time and not someones servant. Most presenters have a relatively short shelf life. So I think Helen fans should all enjoy the naturalness of Helen while we still can. Savour it and enjoy. No need for some to cringe as there was just nothing to cringe about. Enjoy her for goodness sake:devil::devil: |
Well I was cringeing!!! I want her to succeed, I really do but on this evidence I just think people are laughing at her. I even read a review in the Mail today which confirmed my worse fears. I will post it later for those who are interested.
Still no problem in having different views. It's what makes the world tick:elephant::dance: |
I would be interested to read the review chilled. Not a fan of the Mail, but some of their columnists are OK.
|
i agree with bananarama and rob.
the others on the show are hardly freudian in their wit and intelligence are they?? if you cringe, then dont watch it. they wouldnt have offered her a role on there if they didnt think she could do it. im sure they tried her out in soime kind of practice show. |
Well put cc100. I too would be interested in reading what the paper had to say out of curiosity only.
My oppinion of any newspapers is so low that i have not purchased them for more than a decade. With the exception of when Helen was on BB and was hoping for some info on her and Paul. You know what trash they finished up printing. That is the reason I don't subscribe to any of them. Reviewers and editors alike dedicate their lives to making an income by trashing someone or other in order to justify there own existence and the pay cheque at the end of the month compliments of newspaper readers. I won't be biased simply because it is Helen being discused but because as you see I loath the British press and there character assassinating mandate they are usually hell bent on using to sell the rubbish they print.:devil: |
Come on everyone. This is the first time Helen has been given the opportunity to do anything like a presenting job. On Lorraine she was talking about things she knew lots about. Now she is having to give her opinions on topical items.
She's bound to take a while to settle down and I am sure they were aware of what they were going to get when they signed her up. Helen is never going to be a quiet, intellectual, boring person. She will state her mind probably without thinking. And I think the loudness will tone down shortly. She just needs to find her feet. Personally she is the only one on the programme who says what she really means. Give the girl a chance. I look forward to her next appearance. |
