He's only degrading her if she FEELS degraded. She got upset over the whole Darnell situation and then went right back into his arms but was surprised that Rex got called up for what she felt was nothing but a joke. And she's clearly confident and manipulative enough to fight her own battles, she doesn't need the sympathy vote from a general public jumping to conclusions.
