Yes, from the same author [Hans Christian Andersen] who wrote The Little Mermaid, The Ugly Duckling, Thumbelina... quite a lot actually. They were fairytales before Disney made them all cartoony.

I know some of you may not like the theme you have been put with - but it's up to you to make it work! Some are harder then other, but that will always be the case. If you don't know about the character you have been given - look them up, get more info. Also I'm not saying you have to look identical to your character. You just have to portray them. Perhaps take your character and give it a modern twist.

This is one fairytale that won't have a happy ending...

Its tricky but do-able.

My advice to all models is not focus too much on pinning the theme down just to looks alone. Look around the story of the fairy tale and use those aids as props and assistance.
