Rita's is being scaled down due to one reason...she is getting on in age, she cant continue doing so many scenes

flemin 16-07-2009 12:24 AM

I don't blame her for scaling down, the amount of hours they work must be exhausting. I'll just miss seeing her as often :(

Scarlett. 16-07-2009 12:25 AM

Yeah, I'm glad she is still gonna be around though, same with Jack :)

flemin 16-07-2009 12:28 AM

Why are they scaling down Amber's role though? I know she's going to uni but as a result Darrel's been axed and I really thought they both had potential.

Scarlett. 16-07-2009 12:32 AM

I thought so too, but its because it was said soaps should have a Uni storyline :3

flemin 16-07-2009 12:35 AM

As a Corrie fan yourself, what do you think about the show as a whole atm?

Scarlett. 16-07-2009 12:37 AM

Not as it best, but not at its worst

That's what I think too. I think it's been going downhill steadily since 2006/7ish but has risen in quality for brief periods like from August to December 2008. It does seem to be getting better though and last Friday's episode was the best in ages imo.

BigSister 16-07-2009 11:50 AM

Yeah I liked Fridays episode as well
I go though bits when i love it and bits when i dont at the moment its k but I think its strongest in the winter time. Maybe thats beacause i watch more TV then and not as much in the summer time

Scarlett. 16-07-2009 03:35 PM

yeah, they're not gonna put the biggest stuff on now, since people will wanna be outside more

Tablod reports today suggesting that Rita Sullivan (Barbara Knox) is quitting her Coronation Street workplace The Kabin - and the soap - are untrue.

Barbara's very much staying with the show and with its 50th anniversary just around the corner, why wouldn't she?

In a September storyline, Rita announces her intention to retire and decides to sell her share of the business to Norris (Malcolm Hebden), who owns the other part.

Her decision is part of a comedy storyline and Rita's retirement doesn't last long at all - she's back where she belongs in no time.

Mind you, I wouldn't believe all the soapy hype in the papers - the same tabloid also claimed that Betty Williams (Betty Driver) was to lose her job behind the bar at The Rovers. At the time it sounded a permanent move but it lasted all of one episode. Talk about making a mountain out of a molehill.

Corrie fans will soon be able to see 360-degree images of the famous Street as it becomes the first ever TV soap set to feature on Google Street View.

The Google Street View car has been driven down the cobbles to capture pictures for its virtual maps, so you will soon be able to see the Street as you've never seen it before.

To celebrate the relaunch of this new Corrie website, the soap's producers threw open the gates to the set for the special car with camera equipment on its roof, making it the first TV soap ever to do so.

The pictures captured by the car will now be processed and carefully stitched together to create a 360-degree view of the famous Street. The technological process can take several months so they will be made available at a later date. We'll let you know when.

A Corrie spokesman said: “Thanks to Street View, fans will be able to have a good nose around the set in a way that would have been unimaginable almost 50 years ago when the show first aired. “

BigSister 16-07-2009 03:48 PM

Years ago I did the Granada Studios tour a few times. There is a video of a few of us somewhere in The Rovers talking to Betty Turpin. She wasn't really there, it was one of those they film with a blue background and then superimpose it on a film from The Rovers. Lol. We weren't very good actors!

BigSister 17-07-2009 02:28 PM

FURIOUS Steve McDonald gets to grips with his wife's drug-dealing ex Slug in a hard-hitting new Corrie storyline.
Steve (Simon Gregson) is so sick of the waster hanging round his missus he kidnaps him. He and pal Lloyd (Craig Charles) tie up Slug - Ashes To Ashes star Marshall Lancaster - and bundle him into a wedding limo's boot.

The pair drive to wasteland where they haul out the crook who planted drugs on Steve's wife Becky (Katherine Kelly).

Slug's fate will be revealed in the ITV1 scenes next month.
