I am not saying he doesnt have that right. Just as anyone can say they dont believe in the monarchy, the political system, religion or anything else. I simply pointed out the fact that she is the Queen of the UK not just England. As he is a citizen of the UK whether he wants to be or not. She is technically his queen. Makes no matter whether he wants her to be or not.

It's his individual right to never have to swear allegiance to her during his lifetime. So nah, she has no say over him.

I never said he had to swear allegiance to her, no one does. Except currently he lives in a country that is part of her realm. The laws on statute he lives by are in her name. The money he uses bears her picture. (Except where allowed under the Bankers (Northern Ireland) Act 1928). So no she has no say any of his life.

You see, this really reflects more on how you feel about Northern Ireland than Northern Ireland itself, you know? It's interesting.

''lighten up a bit''

I will act how I feel. I am always honest about my feelings on here and I dont feel that you should fake them for anyone. There might be a few things you might not like which I might find funny (Not going to have a list game).

It doesnt reflect on how I feel about N Ireland at all. Its merely a comment on reality not loyalties. One day hopefully the problem will be resolved to everyones satisfaction and everyone will get along nicely.

It does of course. It's generates and propagates that superiority complex that the people of Ireland have always felt that the British exude from time to time, especially when you were so quick to defend the policies that the UK introduced during the Troubles. Devolution has returned to Northern Ireland and it should be allowed to function on it's own without having to bow before the Queen.... that's Patrick's right.

My god this thread is one car crash after another.

Perhaps not the right choice of words, but whatever.

I don't care if it's relevant or whatever - but you would have to be incredibly ignorant of current affairs not to know who Princess Diana was or how she died - it's constantly talked about (thank you, Daily Express <_<), it was all over the news for years...and don't use the young bull**** - I was 7 and at Butlins when she died, I was hardly going to stop jumping in the ballpool and cut myself to Candle in the Wind.

Stu 02-03-2010 10:09 PM

And Patrick was 2 when she died. I only started gaining a knowledge of current affairs when I was in my young teens myself - like he is now.

No far from it, it highlights your own prejudices and preconceived notions is all. You dont really know anything about me or my beliefs. Quick to defend which policies?

Regarding the British troops sent in to pacify the situation. There's other decisions that they made that were face palms of the highest order. I have no preconceived notions.... I've just seen how the British like to regard the Northern Irish and Irish on many occassions.

Funny though

Yeah, it's a satire on papers like Daily Express etc. that always printing conspiracies about Diana. The Morocco bit is probably a reference to Madeleine McCann sightings stories.

Yes it was knee jerk reactions, there were other options that could have been undertaken, however the decisions taken were believed to be the best option at the time. Same as the decision to send in Paras in a peacekeeping role because their war role was of a similar nature. We all know what a cock up that was and the ensuing tragedy that occured because of it.

Its easy to look back with hindsight and see where things went wrong, where incorrect decisions were made. However at the time the decisions made were made with the the intent of remedying the situation not escalating it.

Nah, not with you on this at all. Can't blame it all on the soldiers that they sent.
