Some problems from the job do arise.

You have to 'let go' when you are outside of work. It's very hard at first, especially when someone very vulnerable you know, is returning to a situation you can't change, and you think all the time, when you are home, with your partner etc etc laughing and smiling, that that person could be suffering.

You can get very attatched to clients, I still do. I have a very loud bark, but I have a very small bite, and that's why I succeed, I guess.

I would advise anyone who wanted to get into the career, to do a little voluntary work, just to see if it's really what they want, and what kind of care work they wish to do.

Also looks great on the CV

Drugs.

Binge drinking won't help if because of it, you act silly and get arrested.

Anything that will give you a criminal record. These days a caution for having a pirate DVD will damage your career...well maybe not that, but you get my point?

Don't do too much too soon though. You may get taken advantage of, which may put you off.

Good Luck

We had a work experience girl, in our last place of work.

She couldn't listen in or anything, or access personal files, but I hope she learnt a bit.

Voluntary work, when you have left school may be an option. So many different things to do

there's actually one university in scotland I think which allows you to leave as a fully graduated psychologist or something... its called Queen Margarets!! I don't know if I heard the whole details wrong but it sounds right... ??

ps: Iam a hard worker... not when It comes to history homework etc!

Ella 23-01-2006 10:40 PM

I loved history at school!

EugeneSully 23-01-2006 10:41 PM

I don't know much about universities in Scotland

Work hard at school, but your main studies will be after school. My English is okay, but it's not perfect (alot of people in the profession have poor - average basic skills)

The hard work pays off in the end. Job satsisfaction can be huge

Ella 23-01-2006 10:44 PM
