Also what country doesn't have it's problems? the only thing I say is that we shouldn't have the floodgates open for all foreigners as we don't want criminals, and we're only a small island.

I didn't mention the Country and it's problems. I mentioned some of the people coming over and causing the problems. Not what is going on over there.

I miss the ethnic mix and have witnessed more overt racism from people here than I ever did in London.

I was tempted to go to NewVic college in Newham but it's an absolute ****hole (the college) so I didn't :joker:

I know NewVIc, in Prince Regent's lane... They spent so much money on it and, like you say, it's a ****hole. I worked at Newham College for a while after uni, in East Ham and Stratford.

Ah right. Yeah, St. Helens does have quite a few black people there, same with Wigan. Haven't seen too many minorities outside it though (Ormskirk, Skelmersdale).

I live in Astley, just outside Leigh and we have mainly eastern European ethnic minorities. I'm from Salford though and now there is a pretty diverse cultur there.

I grew up in an Oxfordshire village called Burford, which was distinctly white. I now live in a village on the Birmingham/Worcestershire border, called Barnt Green. Birmingham is a completely multicultural City, but Barnt Green is fairly white - apart from Jamelia.

Oh, it's also where Ron Atkinson lives, too. So that should tell you all you need to know about the diversity around these 'ere parts.

Vicky. 04-12-2012 11:48 AM

I voted half and half, though its not quite that. Whites are still in the majority, but we have a lot of different races here.

LemonJam 04-12-2012 01:50 PM

My birthplace is as white as the North Pole but where I live now is very mixed.

Apple202 04-12-2012 02:31 PM

Like 95% white

Tom4784 04-12-2012 02:40 PM

We once had an EDL rally once :amazed:

Barring that i'd say my area is fairly multi cultural, the small town I live in isn't that varied but the bigger towns are.

Kazanne 04-12-2012 03:39 PM

There are not many coloured here, but there are a few with corner shops and discount stores, mainly of Indian origin, not many Pakistanis also some Chinese.that's about it.

BBfanUSA 04-12-2012 03:43 PM

If You never go to the community college that I go to in my town. You'd think that the whole town was white.

Roy Mars III 04-12-2012 03:52 PM

I live in the suburbs of Detroit, so mostly white, but we have a nice mix going.

I don't think people use the term "coloured people" anymore. I know you didn't mean anything by it, but I thought you should know.

Jamie. 04-12-2012 04:52 PM

This is how "multicultuaral" we are...

My school has now started to do seperate lessons/worksheets etc in Portuguese and Polish.

I wonder if that's how all people right out in the sticks refer to them as. Not heard that term in years either and sounds really American.

I hear that term quite a bit where I live. Mostly from people who've never met a black person.

No criticism of Kazanne, like JHC I'm sure she meant nothing by it.

Shaun 04-12-2012 05:38 PM

The student population here is quite heavily Chinese - but the general public, I'd say, is about 80% white.

Maybe they could move the Mosque?

Harry! 04-12-2012 08:16 PM

My city is Portsmouth and I would say it is quite culturally diverse. My college is especially diverse - particularly as we have many English as a second language classes (ESOL) and we endorse the many cultures of the world.

Very good idea, then they wouldn't block the road everyday

Marsh. 04-12-2012 08:24 PM

 Mosques. What are they like?

They can be pretty annoying when you hear the call to prayer at all hours. I used to live near one too and it drives you up the wall.

Redway 04-12-2012 09:29 PM

It's so annoying when you hear the trumpet being blown (or whatever it is) every few minutes lol.

I've always used that term, I didn't realise it was offensive though as I just thought it was better than saying black, asian, or ethnic all the time.

As the saying goes "you learn something new everyday".
