I'm not sure but isn't it strange the way they just suddenly look up and stare at the ceiling for a few seconds.

What has caught their attention and what are they staring at ????

I've noticed this too.

They just stare intently for minutes on end even though there's nothing tangible there. Weird.

I don't remember it. I was 14 or 15.

I was younger than that.. but it's not about age, you should know it anyway, it's one of the deadliest natural disasters in history and happened so recently. It's like not knowing about 9/11

Well done. Have a medal for remembering it. I didn't that's why I asked so leave your holier than thou attitude out of it.

I honestly don't remember it. I remember of a tsunami that ripped into Japan but I couldn't tell you when or where. If that makes me an ignorant ***** then I'm sorry Salman I really am.

I'm gobsmacked you can't understand stu...
Maybe your knowlege of contemporary issues doesn't stretch to extending your vocabulary?
We all have our cross to bear.

Niamh. 08-11-2013 10:51 AM

Alright calm down everyone, I'm sure Salman wasn't trying to start anything.

Kizzy 08-11-2013 11:08 AM

Just to add I think the 2 most recent disasters following the 2004 tsunami was hurricane Katrina in 2005 and the tsunami in Japan in 2011.
Those two stick in my memory.

Infanticide - Animals that eat their own young.

Kizzy 08-11-2013 11:56 AM

What about that, does it have relevance here?

user104658 08-11-2013 12:12 PM

Psychic cats, butsecks, incest, the Tsunami, vagina innuendo and now infanticide? I swear, this thread has it all.

Livia 08-11-2013 12:20 PM

Rather than ESP, I think animals' instincts are highly developed, so much so that we (humans) don't really comprehend it so give it a magical explanation. I hope this comment doesn't interfere with the sniping, smart-arsing and pussy jokes.

Well that depends is your comment classed as sniping or smart-arsing?
No matter, I understand your point.
Animals if have too many young to feed can devour a few, it's not anything to do with ESP though.

I actually don't think that human instincts are any less developed than those of any other animal; at least there is no biological explanation for why they would be. However, the human condition lends itself to, and even encourages, the suppression of those instincts to the point that most adult humans have very few left. I mean... In some (most?) "modern" western families, infants have their instincts drummed out of them almost from birth.

Even something as basic as fight-or-flight, humans are encouraged to just swallow.

I like to think of my threads like a train journey. We start off in Serious land and over the course of our trip we make our way nicely to Sillyville.

All aboard!

I thought of something else whilst I was at work.. My sister's dogs always know when my brother in law is on his way home. I didn't believe it at first, but they definitely do. For about 20 minutes before he arrives, they get restless and get up on the back of the couch and look out the living room window, whining and wagging their tails. My sister always knows when he's on his way :)

Z 08-11-2013 02:48 PM

My cat definitely notices when anyone in the house is sad. When I was going through a bout of depression she would come and sleep on my lap during the day and sleep on the end of my bed at night and would sit with me for hours on end. She normally sleeps downstairs. I think they're just as aware of hormonal imbalances as humans are; but a human would come and give you a hug and say nice things if they could tell you were sad; a cat can't do that so they express it by being friendlier than usual.

A lot of animals can detect atmospheric-related changes as part of their hunting or survival strategy too; with better hearing for example or are more susceptible to feeling tremors.

So wish I had a cat :( if I'm hopefully am able to get my own place in like 6-7 years I'm so getting one

My cat genuinely doesn't give a s**t about me, or my mood.
