BBC Four is also very much responsible for the UK's love of Scandinavian dramas, with the likes of Borgen, The Bridge, The Killing and Wallander. The effect of this is very much visible in current culture, especially since their popularity on the channel has caused UK remakes of some of these shows.

Then there's BBC Four's comedy output. Charlie Brooker, one of the most well known satirists currently doing the rounds in the UK got his start on the channel, with Charlie Brooker's Screenwipe had five series on the channel, which lead to him doing shows such as You Have Been Watching, How TV Ruined Your Life, Newswipe and writing Black Mirror.

They were also the first UK Channel to broadcast shows like Mad Men, Curb Your Enthusiasm, Flight of the Conchords, Parks & Recreation and even The Thick of It.

One of my personal favourite shows of the last decade, Dirk Gently, only ran for four episodes, but that show never would've even been broadcast on any other channel. BBC Four isn't a channel made for huge viewing figures, far from it. Any show that does successfully gets moved to channels more in the spotlight, such as BBC Two, because BBC Four is a testing ground for shows that would not get produced on any other channel because there "isn't an audience for them". BBC Four allows for programs about things more niche, more specific, and generally caters to an audience which are not getting what they want from other channels. It is due to this that it is imperative BBC Four is saved, even at the loss of BBC Three.

No date as yet
it has to go through many levels
and the BBC Trust have to agree.
But early reports say they are with Tony Hall on this.

Many BBC stars reported this, in anger , well before
Tony Hall said he was going to move it online

Why the **** are they keeping BBC4's dullfest of shows over BBC3 :bored:

Because BBC4 imported "European Police Series" and the like
it was more Hit with all ages,

BBC3 is a younger persons channel - mostly
so BBC3 Online can take over

Jarrod 05-03-2014 06:29 PM

BBC Three is honestly the only channel from the BBC I watch daily. I only watch BBC One every so often, and I never watch BBC Two or Four. BBC Three has some of my favourite programmes and is the birthplace of some of the best shows that have moved into BBC One - Gavin and Stacey and Torchwood for example.

The comedy they're showing at the moment is amazing. Pramface's third series is just hilarious and so is Ja'mie. It's such a great channel. Past programmes have been amazing too. I love their documentaries on teenage problems or life in different areas/cultures. Getting rid of BBC Three is stupid and is one of the worst ideas I've ever heard.

Don't worry, BBC HAS to air that somewhere, it's a rule that if you're competing you have to air the semi-finals.

So they have to air it, then they shove it on a side channel? The shade of it all

jackc1806 05-03-2014 06:57 PM

I don't see be point of making it online only.. They are still paying to make the programmes

Jarrod 05-03-2014 07:01 PM

Another thing I don't understand is that BBC Three's audience share for 2013 was 1.5% while BBC Four's share was only 1.0%

They only just made it a HD channel too.. Another waste of money.

Get rid of 1xtra or merge it with 6 music.
Axe Radio 3- absolute pile of ****.
Cut back on Radio 4 Xtra and the local stations
Axe the welsh and Gaelic ones
Stop wasting money on stupid 3 part dramas and invest in actual proper series ect ect ect

jackc1806 05-03-2014 07:10 PM

Budget 13/14
BBC One: £1,051m
BBC Two: £415m
BBC Three: £85m
BBC Four: £49m
CBBC: £79m
CBeebies: £29m
BBC News Channel: £53m
BBC Parliament: £2m

Merge the kids channels too

I can't find the figures but I think Three has a running cost of about £90 million annual, where as Four is £65 million? It probably came down to the fact Four has less repeats from One and Two.

EDIT: actual figures above!

Here's a petition if anyone wants to sign it

http://www.change.org/en-GB/petition...rust-save-bbc3

Let's hope this goes the same way as the 6 Music campaign did

InOne 05-03-2014 07:21 PM

I don't want BBC4 to go as I like some stuff on there too. But BBC3 should be kept and they should shuffle some stuff around elsewhere.

Shaun 05-03-2014 07:21 PM

obviously the best solution would be to reduce the pay given to certain celebs.

reece(: 05-03-2014 07:22 PM

If BBC3 goes, BBC4 cannot be BBC4 http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v2...8/ed2305b7.png

Jack_ 05-03-2014 07:23 PM

CBeebies and CBBC could easily merge, you run the latter channels programmes from 6am until 9am, CBeebies until 3pm, and then CBBC again until 6pm.
