I need to watch this still, will probably in the next couple of days

Niamh. 13-12-2016 11:55 AM

Second Episode was better. OMG though all i can think about through the whole thing is how I'd love to grab a scissors and cut off Ragnars manky beard

Lostie! 28-12-2016 04:36 PM

Just caught up on the new episodes. I'm enjoying it but I have a couple of issues. I think they've messed up with Lagertha by having her blaming Aslaug solely for what happened with her and Ragnar and for shooting her in the back. Just did the character a massive disservice imo. :idc:

Also it's still bugging me how Bjorn hasn't once been shown to acknowledge baby Siggy's death. I'd have found it much more satisfying for him to kill Aslaug for that tbh.

I reckon Jonathan Rhys Meyers will be playing either an older Alfred or Magnus, not sure which. I was thinking Alfred but I can't help but think an older, vengeful Magnus will return after another time jump so that's a real possibility too.

And with the ending of the last episode,
Spoiler:

I'm convinced more than ever that Ragnar's dying this season. They alluded perfectly to how it happened in the sagas, Aelle executed Ragnar in a snake pit and his sons killed Aelle in return. I hope they do stick to having Aelle kill him because they nicely foreshadowed it way back in the first season when Aelle made a speech of exacting revenge on Ragnar (and the scenes of him throwing someone in a snake pit).

(That spoiler mentions something from the original stories that may or may not happen in the show :spin:)

Lostie! 29-12-2016 03:53 PM

The new episode :clap1: :clap1:

Spoiler:

Even though I figured we were heading to this, Ragnar actually dying still feels weird, it's odd to imagine the show without him. Back when I first started the show and read about his death in the legends I thought perhaps the show would end with that, killing off your central character when it isn't even the final season is a big move (especially so since Travis' performance is so popular). I love that they did it and didn't cop out though.

Ragnar telling Ivar to go after Ecbert was surprising. I assume this is retribution for the settlement Ecbert had slaughtered? Speaking of him, I think Linus Roache gave my favourite performance of the episode when Ecbert was watching Ragnar's execution. If Ragnar's sons do indeed go after him soon, I reckon he'll accept death at this point.

Lostie! 02-02-2017 05:35 PM

The finale was brilliant, one of my favourite episodes of the show :clap1:

Spoiler:

I know the show's never been shy about killing people but 4B really ramped it up. Aslaug, Ragnar, Aelle, Helga, Ecbert and Sigurd all in this back half is pretty significant even by this show's standards

4A was probably my least favourite run of the show but the second half definitely pulled me back. Some blips like the business with Lagertha and Aslaug and that random Bjorn / Astrid thing but definitely a big return to form on the whole. And I love that this show is so willing to massively shake up the status quo regularly. With Ragnar and Ecbert dying especially, Season 4 felt like the end of an era so it's exciting to think about where Season 5 will go.

And JRM is finally here :clap1:

watched the finale last night, i agree the last few episodes were amazing

Spoiler:

Helga dying though :( I was more sad about that than any of the other main characters dying. Was there some significance with the sword at the end of the episode, they seemed to linger on it

Lostie! 07-02-2017 12:42 PM

I think it was just to show that he's a warrior as well as a bishop.

Niamh. 07-02-2017 12:46 PM

ah right ok, next season should be good, I fear lagartha won't last too long though, they seem to be wiping out the original generation

Calderyon 07-02-2017 12:48 PM

Two Finnish actors also starting on season 4. Probably just a one season deal though for them, i think.

Might be a good time for me to check this out.

Yeah, not many left now!

I think so about Lagertha too, especially with the route they've been taking Lagertha down lately. And in season 4 the Seer flat-out told her that she'll be killed by a son of Ragnar so they're already sowing the seeds. :worry:

Yeah I wonder will it be Ivor predictably or will they go all twisty and have Bjorn kill her for some reason (I hope not though)

That was honestly my first thought when he said it  Or maybe another twist on the words with a son of Ragnar being a cause of her death (perhaps unintentionally) without directly killing her.

Speaking of the originals being wiped out, I just realised the only ones from the early days still around are Lagertha, Rollo, Bjorn, Floki and the Seer.

oh wow is that it? I still see Bjorn as not an original though as he was a kid in the first couple of seasons, Man - Bjorn is like a new character really

maybe Astrid will kill her in order to get Bjorn, so indirectly him killing her?

Yeah I nearly forgot to list Bjorn, he feels like a season 2 addition doesn't he? It's easy to forgot the daughter Gyda ever existed, feels like a lifetime ago (and considering how many years have passed in the show it sort of was ). I wonder if she'd have been one of Lagertha's shieldmaidens had she lived longer.

Ugh, Astrid. I hope Lagertha kills her :idc:

I know same, i think she's going to be responsible in some way for lagerthas downfall though

Calderyon 07-02-2017 01:21 PM

Oh the Finnish ones are regulars?. Well maybe not one season then.

which characters do they play?

Calderyon 07-02-2017 01:45 PM

^ According to wiki, Harald Finehair and Halfdan the Black, brothers it seems.

Oh those are sneaky baddies :nono:

Calderyon 07-02-2017 01:59 PM

^ I don´t think any of the cast is very heroish though?

As they all seem to like a bit of slaughtering and killing. Which i guess in those times has kind of been like a normal everyday thing, like washing, eating, sleeping, going to the bathroom and working for example.

ah yeah but there are, I guess you could say some "anti heros" and those two are seen as straight up baddies

Lostie! 22-07-2017 11:05 AM

Season 5 premieres November 29th. I thought it would be earlier, like September  Not sure about the UK release on Amazon yet but I'd assume it's not far behind.

Also, new trailer (looks brilliant)

Niamh. 22-07-2017 11:09 AM

I hope Lagertha doesn't die :(

Natalie. 22-07-2017 01:34 PM

Aw so far away!
Love the trailer though, I hope she doesn't too Niamh :worry:

Lostie! 22-08-2017 11:32 PM

So based on those last scenes in the trailer with Floki looking at the volcano, people think he'll discover Iceland in season 5 and I just found out that in real life the first Norseman to discover Iceland was called Hrafna-Flóki Vilgerðarson. Really cool way of tying his story into real history if they do that.

Lostie! 13-09-2017 12:30 AM

Renewed for season 6 already :clap1:

Lostie! 31-01-2019 05:36 PM

Season 6 will be the final season. Makes sense, considering the show has spanned a good 20+ years at this point there had to be an end in sight in the near future. I haven't even watched season 5 so a big binge is in order soon even though I know almost everything that happens

Calderyon 31-01-2019 05:38 PM

Are the Finns still in?

Brilliant series...we LOVE it. :cheer2:

Niamh. 06-03-2019 01:12 PM

Only just caught up with this. Glad to hear Final 6 will be the last though Lostie, as much as I love it, they need to end it properly

reece(: 03-04-2020 02:24 PM

I'm on Season 1 of this, not as good as the Last Kingdom (similar show) so far but enjoying the dane perspective and liking the monk and Lagertha.

reece(: 15-04-2020 04:49 AM

Season 2 is far better, loving Lagertha, Siggy, Ragnar and King Barlow Jr

I feel so sorry for Jarl Borgs wife who has to hold his ex wife’s skull everywhere they go :skull:

reece(: 15-04-2020 05:20 AM

Omggg I’m glad they didn’t show too much gore in that Blood Eagle ceremony that was truly disturbing

bots 15-04-2020 09:21 AM

i started off liking this, but then it just got overly gory/violent, so i gave up

Niamh. 15-04-2020 09:29 AM

I love this show
