Because you're suggesting posters are listing artists that they've never listened to, where did you get evidence for that exactly?

Statements like that just gave the impression you didn't like the opinion so are using excuses to disregard their opinion as invalid because they're younger.

So younger generations who are big Beatle fans can't list the Beatles as their favourites either because they weren't around in their era?

Youve made all kinds of assumptions here.

Josy 31-05-2014 07:28 PM

Lets just stick to the original topic now please, the threads already took on a serious turn as it is.

Marsh. 31-05-2014 07:29 PM

No assumptions...

^^^ What is the point of this post if you weren't referring to posters in this thread? Who is listing artists they have no knowledge of?

YOu cant have advanced knowledge of impact if you were not there.

But why do you need "advanced knowledge" of impact to judge whether you enjoy an artist's music?

Like I said "impact" is an entirely separate subject to the question in the OP.

You dont but if you list an artist who made their name before you were born as one you dislike then IMO if they are as influential as the Beatles then you need a good knowledge of the impact of their music to make that judgment.

Thats my opinion. If you dont agree then thats up to you. See I don't mind people disagreeing with me at all so you were totally out of order going down that route.

Right, so who in this thread has made a judgement without knowledge?

.... of their impact.

Any one who was not born when they made their name.

We've been over this already.

 You don't need to have been born or around in the 60s to know about the Beatles impact.

And you don't need to know about their impact to know whether you enjoy their material or not, we've been over this.

You're taking it in circles so we'll end it there.

And IMO you cannot appreciate the impact if you were not there.

Maybe. But it is contrary to the thread topic.

You can appreciate an artist's impact and influence and still dislike their music. I can't stand Madonna, but her career and influence cannot be disputed.

You are absolutely right

The word overrated annoys me. Dislike anything you want, but unless you know all the ins and outs of something you can't really claim it's either too lowly or highly rated.

Jay Z would be mine. His music does nothing for me. Find him quite dull.

Me. I Am Salman 31-05-2014 08:23 PM

Calvin Harris

and I love Kanye but hate how people expect you to worship MBDTF, soz but Power is terrible and Runway/All of the Lights are both average. hope Samuel doesn't see this

smeagol 31-05-2014 08:29 PM

should do a thread on classic albums that we are meant to like. cause there is some ive listened to and i just dont get it. maybe for those you had to be there at the time.

Tom4784 31-05-2014 08:36 PM

Morrissey. I love The Smiths but can't stand his solo work.

tbf I don't love MBDTF. For whatever reason it doesn't really connect with me.

808s & Heartbreak was his last really great album imo. Nothing beats it when you're feeling down.

Me. I Am Salman 31-05-2014 08:39 PM

I do like the album as a whole but it's definitely not as amazing as people make out. And I definitely prefer it to 808s

Easy for me this, it was when they were together and is still the case for them solo too. 'The Spice Girls'.

I was always being told they are/were great and I could never see it at all.

The only one I have had a liking for was Emma Bunton because she at least didn't near murder my favourite song 'Downtown' when she covered it for Children in need.

Crimson Dynamo 31-05-2014 09:35 PM

GiRTh 31-05-2014 10:38 PM
