Harrison Ford's musky aroma

110 critic reviews counted on RottenTomatoes so far, 107 of them positive, and a 97% fresh rating.

Looks like any fears of it being as bad as Episodes 1&2 can be put to bed

Omg, I'm so excited. I'm avoiding all reviews and everything, but that's quite reassuring to know!

Iceman 17-12-2015 02:18 AM

****ing amazing. JJ Abrams is God

Locke. 17-12-2015 02:50 AM

Absolutely brilliant. Captures the magic of the original trilogy and even outdoes them in some aspects, I'd place it second behind Empire Strikes Back after first viewing.

Glenn. 17-12-2015 02:51 AM

Holy **** balls. It was amazing.

Iceman 17-12-2015 03:01 AM

It just shows how bad the prequels were too.

THIS is how you do a Star Wars movie.

Iceman 30-12-2015 09:16 AM

It's the 10th highest grossing movie of all time already.

It's just incredible. I've been following the box office and it's mind blowing how well it's doing. I know everyone expected it too but still. I predict it will finish behind Avatar and Titanic (it might just overtake Titanic) in the all time rankings. Even though it hasn't been released in China yet, I don't think it will have the same level of success there because they don't have the history/nostalgia factor, and everywhere else, I don't think it will have quite the same repeat viewing as Avatar had. I'd love to be wrong though!

user104658 30-12-2015 05:23 PM

I never really got the appeal of Avatar. It's a good film, I certainly enjoyed it, but that's about it. A decent popcorn flick?

I guess maybe it's because it was the first wave of the whole 3D thing... But then, I'm not a fan of 3D so I guess that's why I don't really get the Avatar hype :joker:

Locke. 06-01-2016 04:27 PM

Hasn't even opened in China yet, should definitely get at least 2nd place.. Hopefully it can get 1st though

Locke. 10-01-2016 09:07 PM

Now up to 3rd after opening in China.

1. Avatar - $2.788 billion
2. Titanic - $2.187 billion
3. The Force Awakens - $1.733 Billion
4. Jurassic World - $1.669 billion

Iceman 12-01-2016 12:14 AM

So it still has a billion to go. Is it likely to do that??

Locke. 12-01-2016 12:21 AM

It's slightly ahead of what Avatar was on at the same point during its release, not sure really though. Should at least get 2nd though

Iceman 12-01-2016 12:24 AM

Ah okay cool. I'm going to where they filmed Luke's part on Saturday. Pray I'm not one of the unlucky ones who dies visiting this island.

It's extremely unlikely (as much as I'd love it to), for a couple of reasons. Firstly it isn't likely to do very well in China, compared to how well it's performed elsewhere, and China is a huge market (I think it's the 2nd biggest, after North America). It would really need to storm there for it's worldwide takings to beat Avatar. And also, even though it's currently beating Avatar in terms of how much it's taken compared to how long it's been out for, it's very unlikely to run for as long as Avatar did and have the same level of repeat viewings, which is the reason Avatar ended up being so huge.

I'm so jealous!

user104658 12-01-2016 12:34 PM

It was the novelty of being the first seriously major 3D blockbuster (created as that, and heavily advertised as such) that drove the repeat viewings of Avatar, I think it's unique positioning in film history makes it unlikely to be beaten for that reason. 3D is old hat now and, actually, given the strong "retro" ep IV vibe that Force Awakens is going for, I'd say it's actually much more "authentic" in 2D. So, it has nostalgia to fall back on and a huge brand, but it loses that novelty factor and I think that's what mainly fuels repeat viewing.

STAR WARS: EPISODE VIII RELEASE PUSHED FROM MAY TO DECEMBER 2017

Disney announced today that they've pushed the release of Star Wars -- Episode VIII from its original May 26, 2017, slot to December 15, 2017.

The studio put a positive spin on the postponement, citing how Star Wars: The Force Awakens (which was also originally slated for a May debut) opened to record-smashing success in December.

The Episode VIII release date change announcement comes on the heels of a rumor that the Rian Johnson-directed sequel was getting a rewrite.

The rumor claimed that new characters in Episode VIII were getting their roles diminished in favor of Force Awakens breakouts and returning heroes Rey, Finn, and Poe Dameron. The report also claimed that shooting would be delayed a month, but Disney's press release today said Episode VIII is currently in pre-production and will begin principal photography in London next month.

:(

James 20-01-2016 10:31 PM

Avatar 2 is meant to be released around then.

Jamie89 21-01-2016 09:42 AM

:(

But if it means it'll be an even better film because they've got more time to work on it then I'll forgive them

Iceman 21-01-2016 04:15 PM

I had said for ages that they would do this. It will extend their timeframe too and maximise marketing.

James 03-03-2016 11:25 PM

I guess they're assuming that anyone who is interested has already seen it in the cinemas - that home release trailer is full of spoilers :joker:
