Sorry, what I meant was that he didn't fall under the 'straight-acting' (as silly and meaningless as that term is) category. There's nothing wrong with being camp, and it should be embraced if it's part of a person's personality, but it would be nice if gay people weren't exclusively characterized as camp/flamboyant in Big Brother UK. In my opinion, that in itself is making a mockery of the gay community.

It wasn't right what Helen did.

But, when you instigate the argument and make out as if you've caught an STD, just because you shared a toilet with an ex-prostitute.

Matthew was asking for it.

Daniel. 09-05-2015 07:08 PM

Cami Li was a much nicer person than Helen

Glassing someone in the face Vs. Outing someone for being a homosexual.

Yeah, okay.

She really wasn't

Nice people don't glass people in the face or threaten to slit someones throat.
Imagine if a man said that to woman.

Helen is a hateful person

Cami was just messy but funny, and you don't know the story behind the glass incident so.

She glassed her ex-boyfriend in the face, and was arrested for it.
I think everyone who's heard about it knows the story.

When was Cami ever loveable?
Every storyline she was involved in, featured aggressive threats, and foul language.

Helen was gobby and Cami was a thug.

Must say, I'm surprised your defending her as your an Alicia fan.

Exactly, and I took Cami as a cartoon parody of herself which made me support her. She was one of the most messy HMs in the past few years.

Who I support is really irrelevant to the whole debate of stereotypes anyway.

One of the first steps to getting rid of stereotypes is to stop using the term "straight acting", as that itself perpetuates the "straight = masculine, gay = feminine" stereotypes that we're talking about. Using that term when talking about how you're tired of stereotypes being over-represented is counter-productive, I feel.

I definitely agree with the sentiment, though. Non-stereotypical gay guys should definitely be represented more in Big Brother (alongside those who happen to be more camp of course, the solution isn't to act like camp gays don't exist, but to acknowledge that they're not the only ones who do). :)

Every BBUK thread ends up being something to do with Ashleigh/Helen from last season, end of the day they along with everyone else from that season were all awful people and should never have been cast in the first place!!

She wasn't loveable? She was funny though and to me brought more than just aggression, unlike Helen.

I don't even like Cami Li that much, but yes I will defend her when she's compared to the much worse Helen.

Jason. 09-05-2015 07:16 PM

I'm sorry. I'm fine with people having their opinion.

But supporting Cami-Li really is strange.

I wonder if you'd support a man who glassed a woman in the face. After all Conor was vilified for making a threat.

I hear you, but in my defense I wouldn't usually use that term, and was referring to it being brought up earlier on in the thread. But yes, either way diversity, diversity, diversity. Gender, sexuality, age, culture, ethnicity everything, that's what makes for a great show in my opinion :)

Cal. 09-05-2015 07:17 PM

When was she funny.
All she brought was shouting at Perez, whom I'm also not keen on, bullying Alicia and trying to shag Calum Best.

I know. But the conversation was related to Ashleigh/Helen because Helen was involved. I was talking in the broader context, there's no need to be condescending, Daniel.

Not everything related to Ashleigh is to do with Helen and vice versa...Helen was being talked about, not Ashleigh.

If you say so.
I just found her to be a more aggressive version of Helen. TBH.

That argument in the bedroom with Alicia pretty much spoke volumes.

I didn't say it was related to Ashleigh? I said conversations always end up being about Ashleigh/Helen (meaning or, not and).

I'm just saying.
A woman who actually physically assaulted someone is supported, but a man who makes a threat, is vilified.

I'm not a fan of Conor, I despise the ****. But he didn't physically attack anyone, like Cami did.

Regardless if it was in the house or not.

What about her threatening to slit Perez's throat?
