i can see it from both sides. not about this case specifically...

but in general food is often used to demean other people or make them feel different in a demeaning way...

like saying to a korean or chinese that they eat dogs, or japanese eating raw fish, or the british eating horse...it can be said in a derogatory way even though it's part of their culture.

people in australia eat kangaroo, people in florida eat alligator, people in canada bash baby seals over the head, people in africa kill albino humans to use heir body parts in voodoo rituals...

its just different cultures.

well there is no such thing as race, we are talking about cultures really.

This is the 90's you'd think we would have evolved past this stuff by now.

I see a lot wrong with the way Tiffany behaved last night and the response was disproportionate and deeply associated with her gender and race IMO.

I also believe that some of the H/Ms descended into pack mentality because of the her race and gender. It simply wouldn't have happened to Jeremy in the same way if he believed D Gest was dead and raved stupidly about it.

I am not a person that believes differences will not trigger ignorance in others who want to instigate a fight.

Differences are always on the table when someone is spoiling for a fight and John has been spoiling with all that repression and took his minions along with him.

Nothing to do with her race or gender, it was her vile attitude

lostalex 13-01-2016 02:15 PM

i think Rylan would have responded the same way. remember how he overreacted to everything spiedi did just to vilify them.

Kazanne 13-01-2016 02:23 PM

John is not that type of person to be racist,he seems to accept anything,he may be a tad bossy but racist ,never.

This is why we need to SUPPORT Tiffany because we know the housemates are now going to nominate her as soon as they get the chance, especially after John was screaming no one feels safe no one wants her around in front of everyone, basically swaying their nominations.

And Perez completely tarnished the ''gay community'' during his whole stint in the house, what's your point?

Yeah I just wish the world would modernise so we didn't need to wait for American culture to reach us by slow boat.

Someone should invent the internet.

Tbh, due to the show being edited none of us truly know how out of hand the situation got in the house so it's difficult to determine whether the reaction of the HMs was excessive or not, but going by the snippet of what we saw i agree that certain HMs could have handled the situation a whole lot better.

That said, i disagree that the reaction was due to race for a couple of reasons but the main one being that Daniella had the exact same reaction towards Angie when she was under the impression that Angie had said that Gest was dead. He initial reaction was that Angie was 'fcking sick' and that 'she should be removed from the house'. So no double standards here as the reaction was exactly the same towards both Tiffany and Angie.

I agree with you that HMs would not have rounded on another HM as much as Tiffany but again i don't think that's down to race. Tiffany herself the other day said that she has nothing in common (or words to that affect if i remember correctly) with anyone in the house, most of the other HMs have bonded therefore it's only natural, rightly or wrongly, for people that have bonded to be more compassionate to each other when they have been in the wrong.

Edit: On a side note, the only person to emerge from that show last night in a positive light would be Jeremy. I do despise when people are rounded upon, whether they were in the wrong or not, and on two occasions this series Jeremy has refused to join the pack hounding for blood. Credit to him for firstly voting Nancy ahead of Winston when the popular move would have been to vote for Winston and also last night, when he said he would not isolate Tiffany despite what had happened.

Mystic Mock 13-01-2016 04:01 PM

Twitter definitely seems to have an issue with black girls so there's definitely some form of racism from some corners of the audience.

The fact that it's "PC" to not want to be a racist is a growing trend shows you how horrible this show is going as apparently it's okay to be prejudiced towards contestants for stuff that they can't control such as their appearance, which is essentially what race is.

But yes I haven't been watching the series as of late as it appears to be very dull, but the majority of Housemates target who they think will be unpopular with the public and that appears to be Tiffany on face value.

So yeah it's less about racism and more about pleasing the public, it's the same with why 13 Housemates voted out Winston and how they all have a "gay friend" in a desperate effort to get the gay vote.

Nah I don't think we need to adopt dumb American stereotypes. I'm sure we have enough of our own.

Nobody is claiming we should adopt them. We are simply talking about being aware of them.
