My permanent state of being playing this game after encountering Mr. X for the first time.

Up until that point, nothing in this game actually scared me but that tall bowler hat wearing bitch? I don't **** with that.

Spoiler:

That mother****er don't care about your horror game rules, he goes where ever he wants, when ever he wants

Tom4784 25-01-2019 11:52 AM

Okay, Mr. X isn't that bad, he goes from terrifying to annoying real quick.

Jordan. 25-01-2019 02:51 PM

Just opened up the statue and decided that was all the anxiety I can handle for now. Loving it so far though. The licker didn't scare me as much as I thought, it's the dumb things like a corpse falling out of a locker that had me yelling the most :skull:

The lickers are pretty easy in this game since you don't have to fight them if you don't make loud sounds.

So they're blind like tlou clickers?

Yup, they were actually blind in the original too, you could walk past them when you encountered them outside of ambushes but most people didn't realise that.

There is a problem in places where they appear alongside zombies though since they'll react to zombie sounds.

Tom4784 26-01-2019 02:13 PM

I've completed Leon's campaign, I really loved it. Is it too early to seriously consider this to be a GOTY contender? I only had two issues with the game and that was the first Mr. X chase as it went on far too long and it had the effect of tainting his appearances beyond that and Ada's section which I found to be an utter ball ache due to the Hacking Tool being a terrible mechanic. That being said, neither of those issues really dampened the game for me very much, I'm really excited to play Claire's campaign but I'm gonna take a break in order to play through Kingdom Hearts 3 (and hopefully forget the finer points of the game in the mean time so I can rediscover it all again).

RE2 is easily a 9.5 for me (would have been an easy 10 if not for the aforementioned two annoying parts). This is what a remake should be.

Nancy. 26-01-2019 05:06 PM

Loved the one from 1998 so I went into Argos to pick this up earlier and they're out of stock everywhere. :fist:

I'm so excited for this and "The Last Of Us II".

Out of stock? Great news, hope this means it is selling well.

Jordan. 26-01-2019 05:40 PM

Mr. X needs to step off my NECK and quit rushing me through the game.

Yeah, It was £36.99, so that's probably why...

I paid £37 on Amazon it's gone up to £52 now :skull:

DouglasS 26-01-2019 06:38 PM

I'm getting it tomooo

user104658 26-01-2019 07:05 PM

I want to play so much but I haven't finished RDR *or* Persona and I can't go back to that life. I'm going to wrap up both and then reward myself :hee:. And then buy Resi 2.

Scarlett. 26-01-2019 10:10 PM

Exploring the library then this happens

Jordan. 26-01-2019 10:16 PM

I gasped seeing him haul his ass up the ladder

Tom4784 27-01-2019 11:23 AM

I thought I was being clever during that first chase, I ran into the library, ran up the stairs and stood by one of the doors so I could see him coming up the stairs so I could loop him, back then I didn't know there was a ladder and I turned around just in time for him to sucker punch me. I honestly screeched.

It's a shame he becomes such a joke after a few minutes though, the part when he's active in the police station goes on too long and it robs him of his power after a while because I just ended up seeing him again and again and I just rolled my eyes instead of being scared of him like I was when I first encountered him. Instead of being a persistent threat, they should have made him so he has set piece chases.

I hope they learn from X's mistakes when it comes to the inevitable RE3 remake. X was a good concept but the execution on his first appearance ruins him.

user104658 27-01-2019 12:40 PM

So he appears in A? That's kind of lame in itself because part of what made it so good in the original was that you really got to know the station inside out at a more chill pace on the A playthroughs and then it was a major spanner in the works on the B playthroughs.

Nancy. 27-01-2019 12:59 PM

Is Mr X similar to what we saw in RE3: Nemesis?

I hated being chased that thing.

Mr X is just another name for the T-00 that was already in the original Resi 2, but he was only in the B scenario and IMO they should have kept it that way :hmph:

Amazon itself is sold out, the £52 one is from GamesDirect via amazon.

Crazy price though, you can get it directly from Playstation Store for £45

Black Dagger 27-01-2019 02:17 PM

I ordered it on Ebay but I'm getting through Biohazard on VR first anyway.

Oh right, thanks for the info. I'm really looking forward to it.

That's still the case in a sense as he doesn't appear until later on. Minor spoilers I guess?

Spoiler:

He doesn't appear in A until after you've returned to the station from the basement so you'll have explored most of the station by that point. It's not like B in the original game when he appears almost immediately (although Ive heard that's the case with the Remake's B campaigns).

I think they'll fast track it in all honesty, from what I've heard, RE2's gonna be a juggernaut in terms of sales and Capcom loves to double down on a good thing. I do think that X as he is in this game was probably them experimenting with how to make Nemesis work in a potential remake.

RE3 Remake will either be a swan song for the PS4 (with an inevitable Definitive edition for next gen consoles) OR a launch title for the next generation.

I imagine the development cycle will be much shorter than RE2 remake anyway, as they'll just use the RE2 Remake variation of the RE engine for it with few (if any) changes. RE2 Remake has had a fairly lengthy development but a lot of that was because they were still developing the bare bones of the system, and it's clearly had some quite heavy modifications made between RE7 and this.

I personally just hope they do RE8 onwards with this variation and not the RE7 first person mode... wasn't really a fan at all :(. Resi just doesn't belong as a first person game.

I prefer third person and was vehemently opposed to RE7's first person perspective since I thought Capcom was just trying to turn the franchise into Amnesia or Outlast but I ended up adoring RE7. For all it's differences and changes, it was the most classic styled RE game in years.

If Capcom develops RE3 Remake for the current gen consoles then I don't doubt that they'll probably develop RE8 alongside it for next gen.

I also loved Resident Evil 7 HOWEVER it didn't feel like a resident evil game. That's not to say I didn't love it, I replayed it multiple times and would love it as a stand alone game. I miss the resident evil franchise however, and that just didn't feel like a resident evil game to me... I wouldn't mind if they had that format as a spin off of games

I have to disagree completely, it was quintessential Resident Evil, item and ammo management, an emphasis on horror, puzzle solving and exploration and avoiding enemies as opposed to gunning down everything in your path.

The only deviation from the classic formula was the first person perspective and the lack of zombies.

DouglasS 27-01-2019 10:08 PM

Resident Evil to me always has great character development / character personalities. I felt RE7 missed that aspect.

The Ghost Survivors mode is coming next month which is essentially three small scenarios featuring three characters who didn't make it out of Raccoon City. It's also going to be free.

Oooh, looks interesting, I wonder... if they do well, they could make an interesting ongoing DLC model out of that? New characters, new stories, same setting so pretty easy to make quite a few of them...

Potentially although all the characters included so far also happen to have models in the game already.

Apparently there's been some models datamined for Ethan from RE7 and that game's version of Chris so they could be unlockable characters in it.

Tom4784 29-01-2019 10:05 PM

Capcom have also basically said 'if you want RE3R, let us know.' Which is basically confirmation that they're gonna do it given that RE2 sold three million copies in a week.
