SO what. Why did she have to use that word.
She didn't and it was a stupid thing to do BUT not necessarily intended to be racist, especially since she actually said it in front of Charley...
Thats not the point! both Nicky and Charley were obiously offended! read the transcpirt

It takes a total brain dead to use that word in front of a black person that they don't know. It's a total insult for a white person to believe that they would get away with it. She had to go.

Dan_ 07-06-2007 09:44 AM

How incredibly stupid, even in a joking way after all the trouble we had in January you cannot go saying those kinds of things. She's overstepped the line and had to go as far I am concerned.

Captain.Remy 07-06-2007 09:44 AM

What did she say in fact ?

Emily: Don't make a big thing out of it then. I was joking.
Charley: I know you were... but that's some serious ****, sorry.
Emily: Why?
Charley: Oh my god. I'm not even saying it.
Nicky: Just don't talk about it anymore.
Emily: I was joking
Charley: Do you know how many viewers would watch that?
Nicky: Okay, don't make a big deal out of it.
Charley: Fancy you saying that. I can't believe you said that.
Emily: Somebody has already used that word in this house.
Charley: No way. (Pause) Yeah, me. I'm a ******.

Nicky laughs.

Charley: I am one. Fancy you saying it. I know maybe you see it in a rap song. Maybe you and your friends sit there saying it.
Emily: I'm friendly with plenty of black people.
Nicky: And you call them *******?
Emily: Yeah and they call me *******. They call me wiggers as well.
Nicky: I'm quite shocked.
Charley: I'm ****ing in shock.
Emily: It's not a big deal though is it?
Charley: Not for us it ain't. **** me.

I know the word is a bad one, I personally hate it. I have a mixed race cousin who was called that in school once.

I think it must have just slipped out of her mouth without thinking. But doesn't mean I'm condoning it because it is wrong, but we haven't seen any footage yet, so just wait until you judge.

Slartibartfast 07-06-2007 09:48 AM

Whether she meant it in a racist way or not makes little difference to what was going to happen to her. This is a girl who gives herself 10/10 for intelligence and yet she failed to realise that anything with the slightest racist overtones would be jumped upon by BB. After the mess in CBB, anyone with sense would know just to stay away from anything racially related while in the house. Even saying something as a joke or in the heat of the moment is just complete stupidity.

I thought she was going to be a clever, shrewd gameplayer. Instead she's just an idiot.:bored:

GabrielleisLove 07-06-2007 09:49 AM

Definitely inappropriate. I don't think she's a racist; but, that word should never, ever be used by anyone. I'm glad she's been removed.

Mrluvaluva 07-06-2007 09:51 AM

Channel 4 were obviously going to take anyone out of the house who used any racist terms. That was obvious after the controversy of CBB5. They had no alternative but to remove her. If they hadn't, there would be a public outcry.

Mrluvaluva 07-06-2007 09:52 AM

Angela Jain, who heads Channel 4's Big Brother commissioning team, said: "In the wake of Celebrity Big Brother we must consider the potential offence to viewers regardless of Emily's intentions and her housemates' response.

"The word 'n**ger' is clearly racially offensive and there is no justification for its use. We have removed Emily from the house to once again make it clear to all housemates and the viewers at home that such behaviour won't be tolerated."

The incident will be aired as part of the Big Brother highlights show on Channel 4 at 10pm tonight.

Yep, you're right, she is braindead, she might be clever in an academic sense and know how to put big words together but as far as intelligence and insight go, she's stupid and has also proved herself to be ignorant. I feel sorry for anyone who still sees her as an idyllic housemate. Whether she's racist or not, she certainly hasn't matched up to her own opinion of herself.

BB-Rocks 07-06-2007 09:53 AM

I can't belive shes been ejected. I havn't been watching much live feed so i don't really know what was said, it msut have been bad if she was ejected!

There is a transcript on this thread that seems fairly likely. She's shot herself in the foot. Personally, I don't think we'll see much footage I doubt C4 will bother showing it.

Why don't you post this in a seperate thread so members can see the transcript?

Bells 07-06-2007 09:56 AM

They might show a little bit simply to justify their ejection and not to keep us, the viewers, in the dark because we have a right to see it. We're what's keeping the show going, giving it all the publicity.

JuicyLucy 07-06-2007 09:56 AM

luggywuggy 07-06-2007 10:05 AM

i was clapping when she was rowing with ziggy he just wouldn`t let it go.i think she met her match and it did her good that he saw right through her.racist dumb ass.

Bells 07-06-2007 10:09 AM

I'm still shocked - I feel she was incredibly stupid to do what she did and I really didn't expect THAT from her.

Why are you so shocked? She was never as bright as she claimed to be. After all, Chanelle cleaned her clock in the argument the other night.

JuicyLucy 07-06-2007 10:12 AM

I don't really know. I was debating constantly against her last night, but it wasn't about racist behaviour so it's just thrown me off course a little. I suppose it's added greatly to my dislike of her, and makes me feel content with my judgement.

I had her pegged all along. On launch night, the moment she claimed to be so intelligent I was at home shaking my head. Then there was the whole skinny jeans thing. She should have kept her mouth shut and let Charley talk herself out. Then there was the argument with Chanelle, and at that point I realised that there wasn't much between her ears.

Bells 07-06-2007 10:21 AM

Well, she's gone now anyway. I only hope something interesting happens soon, e.g. a replacement for Emily.

luggywuggy 07-06-2007 10:24 AM

she obviously thought she was able to manipulate the situation last night,i would love to see the vt of bb telling her to pack up.

luggywuggy 07-06-2007 10:26 AM

quote'new indie music' she will never live that one down

Polka.dot 07-06-2007 10:45 AM

i cant believe it! well i think she deserves it from what i've read .

Sophii3x 07-06-2007 10:47 AM

The house will be boring without her, now she's gone Iv'e lost my fave. Bring new people in BB!

Bells 07-06-2007 10:52 AM

I don't think it'll be boring, but I do want some new housemates.

GlitterEyes 07-06-2007 10:59 AM

I don't think it will be boring either I think they need a new "bitch" and target though but we shall see who forms it over the next few days. I think Emily fans will move onto someone else quick enough. It was a sad exit but being honest did you really want to see her going out to boo's?

In my opinion that word should never be used, even by black people. I realise that in America they use it in "jest" quite often in their films and music, but here we've taken a stand on it and know it causes offence to many, especially those who may have been bullied with the use of such words. I believe it's just respectful not to use these kinds of words, nothing to do with being PC at all. If something trivial that need not be said may offend someone, why say it in the first place?

yes because it's a joke. I agree that word shouldn't be said by anybody, but in her mind it was no big deal, so also in mine.
