Yes, I agree with that. And China with its record on Human Rights being questionable at best and ****ing appalling at worst. I'm surprised it's taken this long, tbh...

yes 100 per cent

what I cant get my head around is the guy who picked up the container, where was he taking it, they were in the UK so you would have thought that was their destination and obviously if they were alive they would have got off at that point, where was he going with the container ...and why was it picked up at Purfleet

Of all places in China, Hong Kong has the most active links to the outside world - huge numbers of families there have relatives living all over the world, so I think they would find it much harder to cover up the specifics "than usual". Sadly the world is willing to overlook a lot, but an outright massacre would make it very hard for governments not to start sanctioning China heavily and that would be a disaster for them economically.

I'm doing a hell of a lot of agreeing with you today, TS.

They froze to death? That is horrible. I really hope the authorities can find anyone even partially responsible. There has to be a paper trail.

It's being reported they were dead for up to 12 hours before reaching the UK and with this driver picking up the trailer from the UK surely they cant go ahead with charging him with murder?

This angers me, if this was British people the country would be in mourning...but no..I switch my tv on and it's still the same faces laughing about brexit.

Im ashamed to say that I forgot about that bigger tragedy when the same thing happened a good few years back.

From what I've seen, "The Internet" is actually very supportive of Hong Kong's struggle at the moment. You're right about the mainstream news though.

It really is £30 grand to suffocate in a truck !! I can't begin to think about the the loss for all the familes, all we can hope is at least they are all going to be identified eventually - although families seem to be coming forward.

UserSince2005 25-10-2019 05:32 PM

the families are getting refunds from the smugglers it just said on the news. what the **** is this ****.

Ammi 26-10-2019 05:17 AM

...so now it’s believed that a number of the dead were from Vietnam, not China...

And VietHome, an organisation that represents the Vietnamese community in the UK said it had received photos of nearly 20 people reported missing, since the lorry was discovered.
The group said it began to receive reports of missing people on Wednesday. Those who have disappeared were aged between 15 and 45, it said.
The BBC spoke to the brother of Pham Thi Tra My, 26, who has not been heard from since she sent text messages on Tuesday saying she could not breathe.
"We are asking the British police to help investigate so that my sister can be returned to the family," he said.

Cherie 26-10-2019 11:41 AM

I read this morning that the text that was sent to the family was sent while the container was in Essex, if that's true, the guy who picked up the lorry must have inadvertently switched on the freezer or something

Strictly Jake 26-10-2019 12:18 PM

So were their deaths intentional by the suspects? Also what were they planning on doing with these people?

I dont think they were intentional but at the same time i dont think they cared what happened, its hard to prove they were being smuggled and who by, i guess they will swear by that they hide themselves their

..I know, it’s hard to not think about them, it’s so incredibly sad and so incredibly wrong...many were barely more than children with their families hopes of a new world and a new life for them.....

Cherie 26-10-2019 04:52 PM

There needs to be so much more education in these countries about what these young people are being sent to, more often than not it is not the land of milk and honey that is promised but a life of slavery or prostitution and to pay handsomely for the privilege just adds to the horror of it

https://www.nspcc.org.uk/what-is-chi...d-trafficking/

Traffickers often groom children, families and communities to gain their trust. They may also threaten families with violence or threats. Traffickers often promise children and families that they'll have a better future elsewhere.
Trafficking is also an economic crime. Traffickers may ask families for money for providing documents or transport and they'll make a profit from money a child "earns" through exploitation, forced labour or crime. They'll often be told this money is to pay off a debt they or their family "owe" to the traffickers.

The problem is when you live in poverty and in desperate need for money or a better life it is easy to be sold a fake dream, people are gullible when at their most vulnerable and that's how the traffickers take advantage

arista 26-10-2019 04:54 PM

Yes Young
going for a new life in England
it must be terrible if any parents funded this illegal journey of death,

Yes I appreciate that but that is where education comes in, I hope this case as it seems to be getting a lot of worldwide attention will highlight the issues that they are not coming to a better life, but probably worse that what they left behind

Container deaths: Families say three lorries carrying more than 100 people were travelling to UK

The container in which 39 people were found dead was part of a convoy of three lorries, relatives of the suspected victims say.

They believe that over 100 migrants were being brought to the UK on the lorries.

Two of the vehicles are thought to have completed their trips but the third, which was carrying the deceased victims, was delayed at an unknown location.

The eventual destinations of the two other containers are not known.

Sky News cannot independently verify the accounts.

A priest in the town where many of the victims are thought to have come from also said he heard similar accounts from family members.

Father Anthony Dang Huu Nam, a Catholic priest from Vietnam's Nghe An province, said he was aware of more than 100 people who were travelling to "a new life".

"A few families confirmed the deaths of their relatives who are the victims of this tragic journey," he said.

The priest earlier said he believed most of the victims were from neighbouring impoverished provinces in Vietnam.
