As gutted as I am that there was no mens World Cup this summer, the womens Euros has definitely made up for it. There’s been some really entertaining games in this tournament.

Cherie 20-07-2022 09:38 PM

Come on the ladies

Crimson Dynamo 20-07-2022 09:47 PM

great win

really enjoyed that game

Crimson Dynamo 20-07-2022 09:49 PM

not that i am a glory hunter or owt

Nicky91 21-07-2022 06:44 AM

good thing i wasn't a VAR, i wouldn't have counted that 1-1 by Toone

Russo took Paredes down i would've said ''no goal and a yellow card for Russo'' and free kick to spain

spain deserved the win more, england played very poor

Nicky91 22-07-2022 08:10 AM

congrats Germany, and hans kraay jr lookalike manager :laugh2: :laugh2:

facing France of course, since there is no way we dutch are winning that one, doubt if i even will watch

England has this in the bag, its coming home its coming home

Nicky91 23-07-2022 08:25 AM

poor Belgium they deserved more, with all those saves from goalkeeper Evrard

lucky Sweden :idc: in 90+2

Zizu 23-07-2022 10:35 AM

If it took Sweden 35 chances to score one goal I don’t see them troubling England’s defence .. England aren’t impressive as a team but they can defend

the real final might become France vs Germany

England is a certain finalist now but against whom of the powerhouses will they play

Nicky91 24-07-2022 07:38 AM

after 90 mins 0-0 at the very least, great work from Van Domselaar, many many amazing saves, same goes for van der gragt

but Miedema :hehe:

France really will have it more difficult against Germany whom do have a in form offence compared to NL, so they will have to be more careful and be more clinical not to waste that many chances

oh well, last 8 not that badly from defending our title, not as embarrassing as a Norway for example (stranded in group stage and also a 8-0 white wash from england, that for a team who got a ballon d'or feminine winner :fan:)

Nicky91 24-07-2022 07:43 AM

England - Sweden

based on quarter final matches, i hope Toone will start for england if Sarina is smart, someone like Mead was hopelessly out of form last match so i'd say bench her and you got a very experienced backup option

Swedes need to be more clinical in terms of their chances as well, but i don't want to be too overconfident towards England now, there is no such thing as easy matches in semi finals

France - Germany

i'd say germans can edge that one, with Magull, Popp, although getting past Renard will be more tricky i think, and Kharchaoui is also a dangerous left back whom can also be a threat from the left wing, and then they also have Clara Mateo on the bench whom is also very talented

i really don't know anymore now

Nicky91 24-07-2022 08:03 AM

i do want england to not make the final, karma for that 4 eyes traitor Wiegman

Nicky91 26-07-2022 07:19 AM

possible line ups

England: Earps, Bronze, Williamson, Bright, Daly, Stanway, Walsh, Mead, Kirby, Hemp, White

Sweden: Lindahl, Eriksson, Sembrant, Ilestedt, Rubensson, Bjorn, Angeldal, Glas, Rolfo, Blackstenius, Asllani

Sarina Wiegman has urged her England players to “inspire the nation” by beating Sweden and reaching the final of the Uefa Women’s Euro 2022. Since taking over in September last year, the Lionesses are unbeaten in 18 games under their head coach, winning 16 of 18 matches and scoring 100 goals in the process.

Wiegman, who coached her native Netherlands to Euro victory in 2017, is expecting a “very tight” and “difficult” semi-final against the Swedes, but said the England team is “ready to play their best game”. Praising the fans for bringing “lots of energy” in their previous games, she hopes the squad will “make them proud again”.

England reached the semi-finals with a 2-1 extra-time victory over Spain, while Sweden were 1-0 winners against Belgium. The winners of tonight’s clash at Bramall Lane in Sheffield will face Germany or France in the Uefa Women’s Euro final at Wembley Stadium in London on Sunday.

Semi-final hoodoo
England have “lost in the semi-finals at each of their last three major tournaments”, said Sky Sports. At Euro 2017 they were beaten by Wiegman’s Netherlands and they were also defeated at the last four stage at the 2019 and 2015 World Cups.

When asked about the semi-final hoodoo, Wiegman said “it’s necessary to be in the now”. She added: “I do think you always have to learn from your experience and take out the things that you can take, to become better and learn. But it’s no use now to talk about that all the time, because it’s now, it is now. So why should we talk about that all the time?”

Chasing their first ever major trophy in the women’s game, England are now just “two wins away from immortality”, said Greg Lea on World Sports Network. The Lionesses must not “underestimate” their opponents though. This is a Swedish team “on the up” having reached the semi-finals of the 2019 World Cup and the final of the Olympics in Japan last year. “They are now out to take the next step and pick up a piece of silverware.”

Sweden will have a ‘very good plan’
England are “considered favourites” to book their place at the Euro 2022 final, said Emma Sanders on the BBC. However, standing in their way is the highest-ranked team in the competition.

In a word, England’s record against Sweden is “shocking”, said the BBC. The teams previously locked horns 26 times, but the Lionesses have won only three, with Sweden winning 15 and eight games ending in a draw.

Sweden head coach Peter Gerhardsson is expecting an “interesting challenge”, and he and his staff will have to create a “good plan” against the host nation. “I can assure that we’re going to have a plan – and we need a good plan, we need a very good plan, and maybe we need an extremely, very good plan,” he said. “It’s a really good team. It’s going to be an interesting challenge. I think we are very difficult to beat.”

Kick-off time and UK TV coverage
Tonight’s semi-final at Bramall Lane kicks off at 8pm (BST). The match is live in the UK on BBC One and BBC iPlayer, with coverage starting at 7.25pm. Presenter Gabby Logan is joined in the studio by analysts Alex Scott, Ian Wright and Anouk Hoogendijk. Match commentators are Robyn Cowen and Rachel Brown Finnis.

Team news and possible starting XIs
Wiegman will have all 23 players available for tonight’s match. Therefore “tactical decisions will dominate the coach’s thinking”, said Marc Mayo in the London Evening Standard. After coming on as a sub against Spain, Alex Greenwood is “tipped” to step in for Rachel Daly at left-back. Ella Toone and Alessia Russo are “also pushing to start”.

Sweden will hope that Hanna Glas, Emma Kullberg and Jonna Andersson are available after the trio missed the quarter-final due to Covid-19, said Ben Sully on SportsMole. Veteran midfielder Caroline Seger has missed the past two games after battling a heel injury.

England possible starting XI (3-5-2)
Mary Earps; Alex Greenwood, Millie Bright, Lotte Wubben-Moy; Lucy Bronze, Keira Walsh, Georgia Stanway, Leah Williamson, Beth Mead; Ellen White, Lauren Hemp

Sweden possible starting XI (4-4-2)
Hedvig Lindahl; Nathalie Björn, Magdalena Eriksson, Linda Sembrant, Hanna Glas; Filippa Angeldal, Kosovare Asllani, Amanda Ilestedt, Hanna Bennison; Stina Blackstenius, Fridolina Rolfo

Pundit predictions
England’s semi-final record at major tournaments is “dicey”, said Luke Baker in The Independent. But in Wiegman, “they have the ultimate tournament manager” and this is a side “bristling with confidence and self-belief”. The Lionesses “should be able to get the job done”. England 3-1 Sweden.

“Another nervy night could be on the cards” for the hosts, said Marc Mayo in the London Evening Standard. But Sweden’s high press “could play into the hands of a team capable of moving the ball quickly and being clinical in front of goal”. A 2-0 England win.

“If history is any indication”, Sweden should be able to emerge triumphant here, said Shubham Dupare on SportsKeeda. However, the current form is the “most important factor”, and there are “very few teams in better form than the Lionesses in women’s football at the moment”. The home support will “rally” behind the Lionesses, “who could win this one”. England 2-1 Sweden.

Sweden are a really good team on the counter-attack and are good at set-pieces, Arsenal’s Swedish manager Jonas Eidevall told the BBC. They would be the “two main concerns” playing against them. However, England are also “absolutely capable” of beating Sweden. “It’s a coin toss between them. It’s 50-50 which team is going to advance.”

Sooo how was this Bronze woman the Worlds Best Player ??
Going forward she’s decent but her defending is woeful .

She gets caught out of position time and time again and looks to be carrying too much timber to chase back ( just happened then after Judd 30 seconds )

But her main job is to defend that RB area - I only watched the first half and they could have scored 5 on a different night just coming from that RB area .

The pundit actually said “ we need to stop all those crosses going into the box”

I agree we were close to conceding in the 1st half but we didn’t concede any goals in the 2nd half so Sarina definitely made the right choice to keep her on, she scored within 3 mins once the 2nd half started.

Crimson Dynamo 26-07-2022 09:22 PM

the goalie had a great game

Sweden goalie..not so much...

no, england had the easiest road to the final

Germany and France are the real powerhouses

Nicky91 27-07-2022 07:04 AM

imagine White against Renard :laugh3: lol if she already struggled against swedish defence, she'll have no chance whatsoever against that french giant :fan:

or imagine earps against the strong german offence of Magull, Popp, possibly Schuller too if she comes in

Sweden was just Asllani and Blackstenius as strongest players and the rest were amateurs

Nicky91 27-07-2022 07:12 AM

also Lucy Bronze does a perfect job as RB, modern days football RB job is to deliver assists and be more of a RW, same goes for LB into a LW

defence job falls into responsibilities of CB's and Williamson, Bright are a super solid duo for now, but so far hasn't had a tough opponent, luck of the draw being in the easier half, rather than facing a in form Germany or France earlier on

Nicky91 27-07-2022 08:57 AM

England played alright but i'll only begin cheering when there is reason for cheers, if the girls can win in the final

and either France or Germany will be a first real test

in terms of backs, France has a solid one in Kharchaoui but also solid wingers like Cascarino, as for goalkeeper Peyraud-Magnin is also pretty consistently good

starting 11s (possible)

Germany: Frohms, Gwinn, Hegering, Hendrich, Rauch, Oberdorf, Dabritz, Magull, Huth, Brand, Popp

France: Peyraud-Magnin, Périsset, Mbock Bathy, Renard, Kharchaoui, Geyoro, Bilbault, Toletti, Diani, Malard, Cascarino

no Buhl for Germans, she tested positive for covid but Schuller is now fully back with the squad, and fully fit, on the reserves bench topscorer of the bundesliga, but they prefer to go with the one in form here so far, Alexandra Popp, such a luxury problem when you got two top goalscorers

Crimson Dynamo 27-07-2022 09:02 AM

She scored the excellent backheel goal

anyone could've made goals against Van Veenendaal 2.0

only difference is Lindahl doesn't have a similar big nose as Sari :fan:
