I usually do because they've always had the capacity to acknowledge the real quality work rather than to appease the audience, sponsors or big movie moguls. They've sold out now with this one. I suppose it was going to happen eventually, particularly with viewing figures down and the mistake they all made by not celebrating The Dark Knight last year. Sign of the Times. lol

Oh, and no, I'm not a fan of Avatar. I mean, it's a spectacularly beautiful looking film and deserves every single technical award that they choose to lavish upon it, but in terms of dialogue, character development or ingenuity of storytelling it's an absolute disaster.

But shouldn't something that appeals to most people be the best work? What's the point in making a film "with real quality work" that only a couple of people enjoy??

It promotes a conveyor belt mentality within the filmmaking world, with real artists taking a backseat to films that appeal to the lowest common denominator. That's not art or beauty baby. You should have seen some of the people's faces when Avatar won. They couldn't hide their distaste, and that's odd in award shows like these where it's usually very easy to hide your true feelings.

Who decides what makes a "real artist" or not though?? Everyone has their own opinions on what's good and what's not

Go see it in a cinema Niamh. It's the most amazing spectacle....honestly never seen anything like it in my life. But no, it's another Titanic.
Cameron is surpassing one shitty film with another here, and it's going to clean up at the Oscars just like that giant turd did.

But anyway, the one thing great thing that came from it was that Jeff Bridges won for best actor.... Legend! Oh, and Downey Jnr won for Sherlock Holmes too.
