Arsenal agree £17m Lucas Perez fee, with £35m Shkodran Mustafi deal close

Shaun 26-08-2016 12:43 AM

that'll have to do I suppose

Understandable that the transfer limit has been divulged but I can't really explain why others haven't been shown the door to boost our funds. Surely even Theo could fetch us a bonus 20m or so.

Wenger has just confirmed in his presser that we've signed both Mustafi and Perez.

Yeah just paperwork to finish I think

I'm sure many will mock Perez for not being a big name or whatever but then, when the media wanks off the Madrids and Barcelona only and lets the others fade into obscurity that's always going to happen I suppose. His stats aren't that bad I guess. Not a marquee but at least there're other options now.

Agree. Perez scored 17 of Deportivo's 45 league goals last season. That a fair return playing in a side that finished 6th from bottom. Obviously people will point to the fact that he's uncapped but it doesnt matter. We need options up front and judging by the way he plays he should be a dangerous option for us.

Calum on loan to Boro for the season

GiRTh 06-09-2016 06:13 PM

Nottingham Forest have signed Nicklas Bendtner. All the crap he used to talk about how good he was yet a midtable championship club is probably his level. :joker:

His Wolfsburg career ended in a shambles as well didn't it? Sure there was some animosity about something.

There always is animosity with him. Shocked to see he only left Arsenal in 2014 and now he's out of contract again. We were the only mugs who let him play for any length of time or should I say Wenger was the only mug who couldn't see he was ****e.

Joel Campbell scored today for Sporting while Walcott is getting slammed on ArsenalFanTV. Cant really see what Walcott can do to win some of the fans around and dont mind admitting I'm one of those fans. He wasnt bad today - Ox was far worse - but he still isnt giving the club what he should be at this stage of his career.

Can we finish 4th?

If we do and win the FA cup then Wenger is the luckiest manager ever. He should buy a lottery ticket - not that he needs the money. After this sh*t shower of a season where he's been finally found out. To end it with 4th and silverware would be a miracle.

Our first transfer of the summer is already confirmed, and it's a freebie. From the Telegraph's Jeremy Wilson:

Quote:

Arsenal have already provisionally agreed their first summer signing – the Schalke left-back Sead Kolasinac – but manager Arsène Wenger has warned against wholesale changes this summer.

An agreement over a four-year deal for Kolasinac, who is a 23-year-old free agent, underlines how Wenger has been continuing to work on plans beyond the end of his contract even if final decisions on his future have not been made. Wenger wants to stay but that will still depend on reaching some sort of understanding over some structural off-field changes that Arsenal directors plan to implement.

The arrival in July of Kolasinac, an attacking full-back, clearly suggests that Nacho Monreal or Kieran Gibbs – and perhaps both – will leave this summer, and also that Wenger may well continue next season with wing-backs and three central defenders. The new system has certainly suited his existing attacking full-backs, while also providing a defensive stability that has helped the central midfield, notably Aaron Ramsey.

Wenger does not want to increase his overall squad numbers even if Arsenal do have the extra demands of the Europa League and believes that he will again be faced with a shortage of real quality at the right price. “We have a very big squad at the moment that is already difficult enough to manage,” he said. “A bigger squad is impossible. If we finish outside the top four, it will maybe be down to one point. One point would be difficult to swallow but that should not as well change the judgment on the quality of the team to a way where you think you have absolutely to change everything.

"It will mean just keep the same focus to try to strengthen the squad. We know where it has to be and that’s what the club will have to do.

“We lacked defensive stability in some important games this season, and we had to completely rethink the system. I had to make some changes and now we look more stable at the moment.

“To buy doesn’t necessarily mean success. There is a shortage of top level players. There are some big teams in Europe who have big players but they do not need to sell them. You look and we are certainly the richest league in Europe, but there are still some top level players who play in other leagues. There is more money available than good players.”

Wenger remains adamant that finishing outside the top four would not affect the club’s summer planning or a decision on his own future. “It will not have any influence on the way the club will be led and how we will behave on the transfer market,” he said.
I'd imagine we'll keep Monreal and loan Gibbs out, since we're reluctant to fully sell English players... but with the new formation and tinkering this is quite exciting since Monreal's flourishing these past 2 seasons with new roles and hopefully competition for places can enhance that.

As is mandatory for all Arsenal signings, he's a handsome bugger.

We'll pretend Gabriel Paulista didn't sign

Finally building a squad of nasty bastards, excellent

Alisher Usmanov fails with £1bn bid to buy out Stan Kroenke at Arsenal

He's now up'd the bid to 1.3bn. Please let this happen.

Arsenal announce something positive? Its must be season ticket renewal time

Mystic Mock 19-05-2017 08:16 PM

I've been saying this for years now, but what Wenger has needed to do is get some aggressive bastards in his team to balance the fact that he has alot of flair players going forward.

If you look at any team that wins the league they have a balance of aggressive bastards and technically great players.

Arsène Wenger feels sorrow for Tony Adams after negative comments

Its a shame that the Arsenal legend has made these comments but, he's hasn't said anything that isnt already quite well known to Arsenal fans. We know he isnt the greatest coach or tactician. Also didnt Patrick Vieira already claim Wenger cant handle confrontation? Add to that Pires' mystery firing and Henry's mystery firing last year. Arsenal legends cant get back in the door.

Wenger will stay for another two years but both he and Arsenal need to plan both of their futures very carefully.

Another trophy delivered for the Arsenal fans by Mr Wenger

Say Thank you Arsene.

GiRTh 27-05-2017 06:28 PM

Seven FA cups is very impressive. I wonder when's he gonna announce his new contract?

AnnieK 27-05-2017 06:32 PM

Arsenal played far better today....A well deserved win.

Brother Leon 27-05-2017 06:33 PM

Wenger In!

GiRTh 27-05-2017 06:37 PM

Did Wenger jsut say this team can win the Championship

Well done to Arsene and the lads but lets not get carried away.

Shaun 27-05-2017 07:00 PM

:flutter:

The change to the new system has been excellent.

Mertesacker/Holding/Monreal = the new Cannavaro/Costacurta/Maldini? I think so :clap1:

Great games for Welbeck, Sanchez & Ramsey as well (even if the latter did miss two sitters)... only shaky player for me was Xhaka but even he didn't do anything too awful.
