Loved the episode.

Also, it was never actually revealed what the Hybrid is, we just heard theories, I expect it to come to fruition at the end of Capaldi's run. I wouldnt be surprised if 10's first episode is set on Gallifrey.

I ended up accidentally spoiling Clara's survival for myself before I watched it and I expected to hate that since it might undermine the impact of her exit, but I actually respect the way they did it. I like that her facing the raven hasn't been undone, just put on hold for a while, and the Doctor forgetting Clara was a nice unexpected twist when the companion being forced to forget the Doctor would be the typical expectation.
I also liked Donald Sumpter turning out to be Rassilon, just a shame he was so underused. I hope he returns (still played by Sumpter) in the near future. |

The Christmas special looks fun this year rather than depressing as it has been for the last few years! Greg Davies looks hilarious.

Is it just me who is really not enjoying this series its one of the worst ones yet! I've had to force myself to get through it and only because I've been a fan for so long and invested so much time into the show.
|
It's been very hit and miss - the good ones have been very good and the bad ones have been awful
|
Really? I've found this series to be really consistent with only two 'bad' episodes ('The Girl Who Died' and 'Sleep No More', although the former is far superior to the latter, imo). If it wasn't for Sleep No More and some elements of last night's episode I didn't like, this would have been my favourite series of the revival.

I watched last nights again and I think its one of the best finales for a few years. Once you make peace with the story veering off to 'lets save Clara even though she died two episodes ago' its actually a beautiful ending for her.
I also love the new sonic screwdriver and want one. |
I was so relieved to the the sonic screwdriver that I didn't notice it was new m.

The only episodes I didn't like this season was the first one and the two parter with the ghosts. I've enjoyed everything else.

Personally, Series 9 is up there as one of my favourites. It has been an extremely strong series with some pretty great stories. The only one I didn't like was Sleep No More and The Girl Who Died. They both lacked something but the rest has been absolutely fantastic.
The Magician's Apprentice and The Witch's Familiar has got to be up there as one of the best opening stories to a series. The reintroduction of Davros and the twist of The Doctor saving him was a great storyline. Under The Lake and Before the Flood felt like classic Doctor Who in the sense that they just told a story of The Doctor and Clara and an adventure to save some people instead of complicated plot devices we've seen in recent series. The Girl Who Died and The Woman Who Lived aren't so strong. The first part of this two parter felt slow and boring, with Ashildr really having no real purpose. The Woman Who Lived was a little better and it was interesting to see what happened to "Me" after The Doctor left her to live. The Zygon Invasion and The Zygon Inversion were my favourite episodes of the series. I was so happy to see the Zygons return after the 50th, and it was great to see what happened after The 11th Doctor left earth with the peace treaty. The story was great, the way it carried on was brilliant and I loved the speech The Doctor made at the end of the second episode. Sleep No More was an extremely weak episode, which is unfortunate because it's by Mark Gatiss. It felt boring with the idea of "found footage" just not working for Doctor Who. Face The Raven was an interesting episode to watch. I found the idea of bringing back "Me" and having her look after aliens in a hidden street a good plot idea for her story. I didn't like how we didn't exactly get the full story behind Rigsy and it felt like he'd just been plonked in the middle of the story for no reason. Clara's death and facing the raven was a perfect heartbreaking end for a companion I've adored since she was introduced. Heaven Sent was some groundbreaking television from Capaldi. To see him take on the entire episode himself apart from the odd appearance from Jenna Coleman in his mind was pure genius. It really did cement his portrayal as The Doctor and proved to everyone he IS capable of being The Doctor and that he can be just as good as his counterparts. Not only that, the story was such a good idea. I loved how The Doctor was stuck inside the confession dial and had to fight his way out. Hell Bent felt like an epic finale in the trailers with the teases of Gallifrey, Daleks, Cybermen and Weeping Angels, When watching it however it did let me down a little. I felt like The Doctor returning to his home planet should have been so much bigger and it turned into a show about saving Clara rather than The Doctor's big return. That said, I did like how it ended and how The Doctor forgot Clara after breaking every rule to save her. |
I think we'll get to see a proper Gallifrey episode next series, and I kinda expect that Rassilon will be revealed as the "War Minister" lol
