Yeah, you can activate it via the console. You can buy the subscription say today from an online retailer and then redeem the code on Christmas Day. You can redeem it when you want basically.

Oh, that's good to know. Any recommended retailers to buy it from, or does it cost the same everywhere?

It generally seems to cost around the same from everywhere. Cheapest appears to be eBay at £35 for the year. The codes are emailed to you from most eBay sellers.

Can someone tell me if the controllers come with a USB cable like the PS3 ones did? Does it work the same way with recharging?

They do, but the shape of the part which goes into the PS4 controller isn't the same as the PS3 one

lily. 08-11-2014 01:05 PM

As long as they come with a cable, that will be fine.

I think they're gonna keep the ps3 anyway, cos as far as I know they can't play the PS3 games on the PS4.

Do headsets etc. from PS3 work on PS4?

Depends on the headset really, if it's a wired/wireless headset which is plugged in to the console/charged via USB, then that should be fine

lily. 08-11-2014 01:16 PM

Yeah, it plugs in to the USB. Glad something is guna be useful from the PS3 haha.. this house is turning into a console graveyard.. between the PS3, PS2, PS1, Wii, various versions of the Nintendo DS and Gameboy... and even an N64. ffs!

Jake. 08-11-2014 01:18 PM

This may help in regards to the headset - http://community.us.playstation.com/.../td-p/40831841

I decided to buy one over the weekend, but I bought the AW/Last of Us/Destiny/PSN bundle instead because they didn't have Watch Dogs in stock. I've not tried Destiny yet, most people I know aren't crazy about it. I might give it a go later tonight.

When asked about the resolution and frame rate in the PS4 version of Batman: Arkham Knight the response was... "We don't know yet," a Rocksteady developer said. "We're about six months away from going gold. So we don't know what the resolution and the frame rate's going to be yet. That's something that happens during the optimization phase of the game. We're aiming for parity across all platforms. Whatever it is, it's going to be awesome."

The framerate on Assassin's Creed Unity is apparently terrible, as in under 20fps (on both consoles). Glad I gave it a miss.

Locke. 11-11-2014 08:33 PM

Reset your DNS settings so you have to redo it all over again to get access to Netflix US, that's what it does

Scarlett. 11-11-2014 09:03 PM

Just stability and shizz.

Speaking to VG247, Michael Ephraim, Australian PS4 boss, said that Sony does its best to react quickly to any developing problems, such as those encountered with the release of firmware 2.0.

Firmware 2.0 introduced Share Play and Youtube support to the PS4, but it also hobbled some consoles, forcing a reset after going in to Rest Mode.

Listen: we’re really, really apologetic,” he said, speaking in an interview published today.

“Dealing with network and digital – I’m not trying to spread or deflect anything, but dealing on such a robust network is a tricky experience. The good thing is we’ve launched 2.01, which has fixed the rest mode, and has fixed the YouTube app.

“It was very unfortunate. We hate that. The network was down during the 2.0 release. It’s very unfortunate. Those things are gonna happen over time. We’re not bulletproof on those things.

“I think the good thing is, we reacted quickly and the fix is out, about two or three days after. So we apologise. Like I said, dealing with global network loads and concurrent users for a platform that is ever expanding because of our sales being so strong is tricky at times, and we’re not infallible.”
The PSN should be much better than it is. Requiring payment for online play means there should be an improvement, but there isn't.

Money from PS Plus appears to be going towards helping failings in the other divisions within Sony or towards recuperating losses from last gen.

Scarlett. 16-11-2014 08:56 PM

It'll hopefully get better in time, its still a lot better than it was in the PS3 days.
