My huts will be under water that is for sure. Water going down now for the mo so not now coming in the back door but the radar looks awful and as I said the rain is not going to end till early Sunday morning. Luckily the small Lts have slept thru it all

at least my fix on the roof leak upstairs looks to have held

Mokka 05-12-2015 04:52 AM

doesn't sound like you will be getting any rest this weekend. Will you and all the LT's be bailing water all day tomorrow? Or just hunkering down inside and hoping for the best?

No bailing out and cutting a few channels for the water from the field behind me to drain off. I went out there in the dark to look at the river and its raging and not pretty

managed to lift rug and electrical thinsga and mopped up and as of now its eased a bit (I have wood floors so its not so bad.

No let up in rain for at least 24 hours. God knows what my river will be like..

At first light I will go and inspect and bale out. I expect to be at this all day. I am knackered and my hands ache from the mop and wringing out towels that I am sealing the door with.

and more rain Monday

Sounds bad LT, look after yourself and then worry about your things.

Josy 05-12-2015 07:20 AM

The rain hasn't stopped for more than 24 hours, it's constant and heavy.

We were sent home from work early on Thursday night because of a snow blizzard and sent home last night due to the heavy rain and crazy winds.

Cherie 05-12-2015 07:57 AM

 stay safe guys, you get some really rough weather, Have you been flooded before LT? sounds awful take care

Crimson Dynamo 05-12-2015 09:09 AM

Iv just done an hour and a half of bailing out the patio
Its harder than clearing snow. Iv shifted gallons. Allthe roads are blocked so cant get my parcels in or get anything in town. Another big dunt coming at around 6 so preparing for that

Rain started yesterday morning and has not stopped and wont until tomoz morning

The rain was just karma for bragging about the snow. :hee:

Still fairly sunny here with a couple showers. It's getting a little ridiculous I must say, I hate sunny winters. I want snow. :fist:

'Thousands of homes across northern England and Scotland are under threat of flooding in the wake of Storm Desmond, with Cumbria police declaring a major incident.

The Met Office issued red weather warnings for several regions following heavy rainfall and high winds, with amber warnings in effect for areas including Yorkshire & Humber, North East England, Strathclyde, and Lothian and Borders. Parts of the Pennines are expecting gusts of up to 80mph on Saturday night.

Rainfall of 2.4in to 3.9in (60mm to 100mm) is likely in many amber zones, with some mountainous areas recording more than 5.9in (150mm) over a 30-hour period.'

i ache all over and cant even bend down to tie my laces

2 periods of bailing out the patio yesterday. The second stint was 3-9pm. 6 hours straight, no break, just the odd glass of milk. In the rain and dark. With a plastic storage tub, bend down..fil..lift and walk 20 yards up the garden and bale. I cant just lift and throw as it runs back in as the ground was 100% saturated. I thought i was going to bloody collapse in the last hour :worry:, I went thru 2 complete changes of clothes hat and gloves. The small LTs were all worried. At 9 I came in to do their bedtimes and looked back out and the water was rising again but I had no more energy. I knew it would abate at midnight so I just taped up the door seams and waited with the mop and towels. At 1.30 it had stopped coming in and i had managed to keep it about 10 feet or so in an arc in the main room. I filled up 6 basins by then mopping and squeezing. I went to bed at 2 am (having been awake 24 hours). Today has been the clean up

I went to get some milk and a 5 mile journey was 25 miles as the big river had blocked the road and there was a landslip

Wind and rain records for Storm Desmond (so far as smaller stations have to report yet so the shap record will be broken)

Storm Desmond, the fourth named storm of the season, bought widespread heavy rain and storm force winds to areas of northern England and Scotland.

The rainfall experienced in many parts of the north west of the UK is thought to have been exceptional and early provisional rainfall statistics indicate many places have seen totals widely over 180 to 200 mm in the Lake District. It is thought very locally event totals may be in excess of 300 mm locally. The Met Office issued a Red ‘take action’ severe weather warning for rainfall yesterday, the first red warning since February 2014.

48 Hour UK Rainfall Total 0900 4th December – 0900 6th December
Site Name Area Rainfall Total mm

Shap Cumbria 262.6
Keswick Cumbria 178.4
Blencathra Cumbria 174.8
Capel Curig Gwynedd 170.6
Tyndrum Perthshire 141
Eskdalemuir Dumfriesshire 139.2
Bainbridge North Yorkshire 136
Cluanie Inn Ross & Cromarty 132.8
