Im not mad about this as he is the Japanese captain, his stats are amazing and he will only be coming in as a squad option not a starter and can cover DM and CB

Looking online overnight .. he looks an ideal defensive utility player !

The general consensus is that you will still buy a big name holding midfielder and this guy ( aged 30) is a safety net purchase.

Defence minded but can go forwards with the ball and has a decent shot on him

He’s been the team captain for a while ..

Apparently he plays defensive midfielder or CB

I saw some stat where he went into 476 tackles in a season which is crazy !

this didn't age well :joker:

'Football transfers: Who are the most expensive players ever in the Premier League and Europe?'

https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/66064353

Harry Maguire is the most expensive defender ever.

Most of the top-money transfers don't really live up to expectations.

bots 17-08-2023 12:11 PM

it's very true, going back years it was exactly the same

James 17-08-2023 12:20 PM

There's often panic-buying involved when they pay over-the-odds.

Nicky91 17-08-2023 12:31 PM

Tim Krul (35) back in the Premier League, signed a contract with Luton Town

the ex Norwich goalie who relegated to the championship in 2022

Nicky91 17-08-2023 01:29 PM

i personally want PSV to not give up on getting Aster Vranckx as Sangare replacement

keep Bakayoko

and for central defender, give up on Debast if Anderlecht only wants him to leave for high price

i'd say 39 yr old Makoto Hasebe would be a nice one, Gotze can put in a good word for PSV how much of a good time he had here in eindhoven, and Hasebe would add so much experience, strength in that defence also a good one for Sambo, Van Aanholt to learn from

Newcastle have agreed a fee with Chelsea for defender Lewis Hall.

Magpies head coach Eddie Howe confirmed his interest in Hall at his pre-match press conference on Friday morning, and indicated that the move - initially at least - would be on a loan basis

The deal will be worth £28m plus £7m in performance related add-ons.

Hall will move to Newcastle on an initial loan deal with an obligation to buy.

Manchester City’s deal to sign Lucas Paqueta from West Ham is on hold.

The situation could change but one source has told Sky Sports News that there is a 90 per cent chance the deal is off this morning

I suppose at this point in time it makes good business sense

Wow

Paqueta deal on hold due to a massive betting scandal in Brazil .. all centred around Paqueta’s move to City !!

He said he’s innocent as he doesn’t bet :)

This reminds me of that Trippier betting scandal …. think he got a 6 month ban ??

Man City’s move for Lucas Paqueta is on hold because of concerns surrounding an FA and FIFA betting investigation.

The player is said to be shocked and insists he doesn’t bet.

The investigation is believed to be about bets placed in Brazil – Paqueta says they were not made by him.

West Ham midfielder Lucas Paqueta has been withdrawn from the Brazil squad amid concerns surrounding an FA and FIFA betting investigation.

The investigation is believed to centre around Paqueta getting booked in games, with the bets being placed in Brazil, and the 25-year-old will now miss World Cup qualifiers against Peru and Bolivia in September.

Paqueta says he has not placed any bets himself and is said to be shocked by reports.
