Second person dies in stage collapse
A second person has died following the collapse of a stage being constructed for a Madonna concert in France. Charles Prow, a 23-year-old from Headingley in Leeds, died overnight at a hospital in Marseilles. Technicians had been setting up the stage at the city's Velodrome stadium when the partially-built roof fell in on Thursday, bringing down a crane. Madonna said she was 'devastated' by the news. Her concert, planned for Sunday, has been cancelled. Charles Criscenzo, a 53-year-old French worker, was killed outright in the accident, which took place at around 1715 (1615 BST). Eight other people were seriously hurt, including an American who was hospitalised in a life-threatening condition. More than 30 people suffered minor injuries and shock, according to authorities. The 60,000-seater Velodrome is France's second-biggest sports arena and home to the Olympique de Marseille football club. Fire-fighters said the accident occurred when the roof of the stage became unbalanced as it was being lifted by four cranes, toppling one of them. About 50 people from a range of nationalities were working to set up the structure, city sports official Richard Miron said. The roof 'started shaking and collapsing' gradually, said Marseilles city councillor Maurice Di Nocera. 'Since it did not collapse right away that allowed several people to get out,' he said. Madonna, who is performing on her Sticky and Sweet tour, was in Udine, Italy, when she was told of the incident. 'I am devastated to have just received this tragic news,' she said in a statement released by Live Nation, the organisers of the concert. 'My prayers go out to those who were injured and their families, along with my deepest sympathy to all those affected by this heartbreaking news.' Mr Prow's family have contacted the BBC, saying he was 'a much-loved son, grandson, brother, uncle and friend'. 'Charles was a happy-go-lucky guy with a big personality and he will be deeply missed,' said a representative. http://madonnalicious.typepad.com/ma...-collapse.html |

Madonna stage collapse police launch manslaughter
inquiryOfficers examining 60 tonnes of collapsed girders and cables hope to interview more than 50 witnesses http://static.guim.co.uk/sys-images/...-that--001.jpg Police in Marseille have launched a manslaughter investigation into the collapse of a stage roof this week that killed two people during preparations for a Madonna concert. Detectives hope to interview more than 50 witnesses to the accident, in which two technicians – a 23-year-old Briton and a 53-year-old Frenchmen – died and up to 30 others were injured. Doctors at Marseille's main hospital were unable to save Charles Prow, from Headingley, Leeds, medical sources said. One other casualty remained in intensive care. Police are conducting a detailed examination of the 60 tonnes of collapsed girders and cables that is all that remains of the "giant Meccano" stage set that was being prepared at the south French city's 60,000-seat Vélodrome stadium, which is home to Olympique Marseille. Video footage being studied by investigators apparently shows the roof "oscillating" before part of it collapsed on to a crane, which then fell on the main stage. The roof, which was two-thirds complete, "started shaking and collapsing" gradually, a Marseille city councillor, Maurice Di Nocera, told French radio. The concert was cancelled and Madonna, who was performing in Udine, Italy, when she heard the news, issued a statement saying she was "devastated". The concert was part of a second European leg of Madonna's Sticky and Sweet tour aimed, the star's website said, at "hitting the cities she didn't get a chance to in 2008". Madonna concluded the South American leg of her world tour in Sao Paulo, Brazil, in December. Even before this summer's European dates, Sticky and Sweet had become the biggest-selling tour by a solo artist – taking £193m worldwide by the end of last year, according to the music trade publication Pollstar. The tour has sparked controversy in Poland because its Warsaw stage is on 15 August, the Catholic holiday celebrating the heavenly assumption of the Virgin Mary. Poland's ombudsman, Janusz Kochanowski, has asked city officials to explain why Madonna would be allowed to perform on a date "bound to provoke and offend". http://www.guardian.co.uk/music/2009...ughter-inquiry |
Exclusive Reports: Latest report from the location of Madonna's new video
Last wednesday M-Tribe reported first about the shooting at the Metropol club in Milano and today our long time community member Lombo1983 reports for Tribe from the location of the Celebrate video at Metropol: "Last night I was at the Metropol, every fan came up with a madonna look. The fashion stylist there was looking at the fans' various outfits, looks and memorabilia and in case they were not what they wanted they helped with extra clothes and stuff they had ready there. They used a total of 25 fans and among the look that were chosed there were Like a virgin, Cowgirl, Gheisha, Hung up, 1987 look, DWT look and more. Reportedly director Jonas Akerlund stood there on the set for the all time and apparently Madonna tried on several wigs. Madonna did some rehearsals for the video on friday but her bits were filmed yesterday. They apparently filmed for 8 hours just the same part of the song over and over and they never played the full song. These footage will be edited with the parts filmed last week at the Gold restaurant and the fans. The fans taking part to the video first danced to the new dancey song all together, then they were filmed separately while dancing on his/her own in front a white screen. The final editing will probably happen in New York and security there revealed that Milan was the location chosen since the start since Dolce & Gabbana offered their Metropol space reportedly for free." Madonna To Work On Top Secret Project
Madonna is planning to work with artist Marilyn Minter on a new project. Now Minter has revealed Madonna has approached her for a collaboration, to which she has agreed - but Marilyn isn't sure what the singer has in mind. Madonna 'grieved with stage hand's family'
http://images.digitalspy.co.uk/08/18...x_762929al.jpg The father of a man who died when a stage collapsed during construction of a Madonna concert has revealed that the singer cried with his family. British technician Charles Prow, 23, was killed after a partially-built roof subsided at the Velodrome Stadium in Marseilles last Thursday, causing a supporting crane to topple over. Speaking to The Mirror, dad Chris Prow said: "Madonna just said to [his mother Faith], 'I'm so sorry for your loss'. She gave her flowers and a spiritual health book. Madonna said how much she had been affected by the accident, and got very emotional." He went on to say that Faith had met the singer at a hotel after receiving a letter saying that Madonna wanted to see her in person. Chris added that the family did not hold the star responsible for their son's death. One other man was killed in the incident, while eight other people were seriously injured. Prosecutors in France have since opened a manslaughter investigation into the accident. http://www.digitalspy.co.uk/showbiz/...ds-family.html |
