Yet they couldn’t be more different in that one is a basic crime series and Grimm features all manner of monsters ( done in a rather unique way )

I remember watching Grimm years ago, something came up that took my attention away from it though, so I could always make another attempt.

And I did see a Subreddit yesterday list Justified as one of the best Shows for dialogue, which I do love it when a Show has standout dialogue.

Either way I'm glad that you're enjoying both Shows.

…I binged both seasons of Back to Life, I loved it……I felt it had a perfect balance of comedy and poignancy, which I think would apply quite a bit to the situation of Miri’s character of such a tragedy that impacted so many who lived in that close community environment…I won’t give anything away of the storyline or any individual characters but they all just blended perfectly into a thoroughly good watch…I would definitely recommend…

Glad you liked it, its Rain Dogs on Netflix?

…it’s another BBC iplayer series burning don’t know if there’s a way that you can access those…?…I think that it might be available on Prime as well but probably to pay, rather than free…I hope you can find a way to watch it, it’s such a good series and cast…

Ammi 03-02-2024 08:28 AM

…just googling and it says that it’s streaming on HBO also, if that’s something you can access…

Niamh. 03-02-2024 08:31 AM

I might be able to get it, I'll have a check later, thanks Ammi

Thank you !

Justified went on for about 6 seasons which is decent then after quite a few years gap they brought it back a few weeks ago with a brand new series .. must be well thought of to do that .

Another similarity between the two series is that they both have really good and likeable supporting characters .

the last 2 seasons were a bit naff, they ran out of ideas and started repeating themes over and over, but apart from that it was brilliant

…I’ve just begun to watch Black Bird and it’s based on a true story as well…I’ve only watched one episode so far but already it’s a very compelling watch …and a limited/miniseries, so a perfect binge/crime thriller watch….

…this is an excellent series and very easy to binge as well as it’s only 6 episodes…it’s even more edge of your seat because it’s based on a true story…

Ammi 05-02-2024 06:35 AM

…I’ve just begun to watch Silo, it’s an interesting plot and a good cast and I’ve only watched two episodes so far…but it hasn’t quite grabbed me yet…

it's a slow burner, but it really is very good. You must have Apple TV, so I highly recommend Slow Horses if you haven't watched it yet. Also, Monarch was unexpectedly good from my view

…yeah, I have a free trial period so I’m going to binge the bejeezus out of it until my eyes can’t take it anymore…I think the thing with Silo is that it’s a much slower pace to Black Bird, so probably not the best time to watch it when I had just finished that ….because it just doesn’t grip in the same way…but yeah, it’s still a good story, I just haven’t decided whether to put it on hold for a bit and then come back to it…Slow Horses was another one that I looked at but saw that it was 3 seasons so decided to opt for less seasons and a quicker watch…I also looked at H/Jack and Bad Sisters because I’ve seen bits of both on Gogglebox……if you haven’t watched Black Bird, honestly you’ll be hooked from the very first …

i'm on a free trial with apple tv too, i've had about 6 free trials of it from various places over the last 2 years

The slow horses seasons are reflective of the original books, so they are self contained, which means it's only 6 episodes per season. I don't gush very much about many series, but Slow Horses is so good

Niamh. 05-02-2024 09:10 AM

Oh yeah Silo is good, I read the book series as well

Ammi 05-02-2024 09:47 AM

…Silo…
Spoiler:

…Ive only watched two episodes but it feels as though the relics and all of the forbidden stuff is from previous communities and worlds in the silo that forever reason, have failed…and with each fail, the silo literally moves up to a new level to begin again…maybe it’s not even so much a fail but a population control and when one level reaches its limit…everyone is destroyed/killed and it begins again…?…anyway, with that very hostile looking pregnancy control object that is inserted into females, all is not as it seems, is it…it’s all very dark…

Ammi 05-02-2024 09:50 AM

…I guess that I’m also a bit hesitant to invest in Silo only to lead to a cliffhanger, rather than a conclusion…conclusions are always such the more neat endings for me…I’m a short attention span kind of gal…keep it moving, keep it grooving…

Silo's story goes from strength to strength as the Season goes along imo.

I honestly haven't seen an American Show since GOT that was so strong at worldbuilding, even over the Mysteries, that was probably my favourite part of the Show, because normally in the Streaming age TV Shows are telling everything in a really basic Movie like structure, which for me kills off any attempt of branching away to different perspectives in the story, and normally it's one thin plot stretched out over an 8 episode Season and if you're lucky it's about three people in the main cast, which don't get me wrong I have liked Shows with a small cast, but it has to be exceptionally well made towards my personal taste to overcome what I personally see as a huge flaw in a TV Show.

Now don't get me wrong I'm not saying that Silo is perfect (for me there were a couple of uninteresting characters in the Show) and it certainly won't appeal to everyone (which is fair enough) but like The Sandman off Netflix, I do appreciate both Shows trying to actually encourage people to have an actual attention span again, rather than these 8 episode thinly told arc throughout the Season.

And to clarify I'm not saying that if you dislike Silo or The Sandman that you automatically have a short attention span (because that's just ridiculous) but I do know that some people found it genuinely weird that The Sandman had two arcs and a couple of stand alone episodes within the same Season.:umm2: It was almost like the Show was doing world building, thus trying to add more depth to the work and make it more eventful for the viewers, the horror!

But sarcasm towards the end aside, I do get why people wouldn't like either Show for legitimate reasons, but I've personally been craving what both Shows are offering (or at least trying to offer) because there are so many Shows that fail at trying to make their worlds feel alive at the moment.

I think what I'm really looking for now, is a relatively new Show from America that actually allows for strong dialogue, because that's genuinely non-existent from the modern Hollywood scene imo.

I apologize btw Ammi for such a long post.

I hate the fact that Silo left us on a cliffhanger as well.

It's one of those cases where a 20 episode Season was desperately needed, so that you get momentum from where you've been left off.

…thank you for taking the time, Mock…I really do appreciate that..…and you’re completely right, it is going from strength to strength with the ‘power building’ in the silo…I’m past the halfway mark of the season so not too much to go before I reach any conclusions or cliffhangers and I still at times get a little disoriented as to the timelines and what is ‘now’ time and what is ‘back’ time …but I am getting more used to it and Rebecca Ferguson is excellent…I should try to catch Sandman, I think that’s a series that I’ve missed but I’ll look it up…

…I really liked this…it was a bit of a slower build up immediately after watching Black Bird and the story wasn’t what I thought it was going to be…it was much more about the power politics of the silo world dynamics…anyway, by the end of the season I was completely hooked …I think the problem for me is that there are so, so many series and great series, that I’ll possibly forget about it before season 2 airs…/…I prefer the miniseries, type of plot…but yeah, I recommend, it was very good…

Ammi 07-02-2024 07:18 AM

…I’ve just begun to watch Masters of the Air because I thought some had been filmed locally to me, but that was fake news, I think…I’ve only watched one episode but it feels like a riveting watch…

Niamh. 07-02-2024 07:28 AM

On Season 2 of The Alienist with Dakota Fanning and Luke Evans, its good

Ammi 07-02-2024 07:33 AM

…I haven’t begun to watch it yet because I’m waiting for all of the episodes to be released to binge it…but I have my eye on Expats on Amazon Prime, it looks as though it could be a good watch…Nicole Kidman is a favourite for me also…

…have you watched The Shining Girls, Niamh…?..

Zizu 07-02-2024 07:34 AM

Justified is soooooo absorbing !!

I’m watching it in 3 episode lumps …
