I loved the hecticness of Coven. That's how I like AHS, fast paced.

Braden 18-12-2014 06:27 PM

Apparently this episode was really good.

It's annoying that I have to catch up by like 6 episodes to watch it.

Jamie Brewer is back.

Although with three episodes left isn't it a bit late to be bringing in new characters :worry:

Jamesy 19-12-2014 12:03 PM

I really liked this weeks ep too. Very beautifully written and brilliant acting by Naomi Grossman. Probably up there as one of my favourite episodes ever in AHS.

Was great to see Lily Rabe back too. Although I hope they can get her back in a prominent role next season.

but yes, this week's episode was amazing. It was heartbreaking. I love Pepper. And it was nice to see jessica lange again redeeming herself, like she always does towards the end of a series.

I think this was the most heartbreaking episode ever on AHS, because like Elsa said, Pepper is a true innocent who has never sinned.

I really hope naomi grossman is back as a regular next season, whether as pepper or as a new character. she has been a great contributor to the show.

lostalex 19-12-2014 12:27 PM

so...Pepper's sister is also the curator of the dead freaks museum right? and she played the realtor always trying to sell the Murder House in the first season right? and I think she also played the tour guide in Coven(season 3) the tour guide of the house that kathy bates lived in when she was a slave owner?

do i have that right?

lostalex 19-12-2014 12:35 PM

also, i think Angela Bassett was AMAZING in this episode. i love her on this show.

I just looked it up on IMDB and no, none of those are the same people  (although at first I did the the freak museum curator was the realtor from S1)

I thought it was a good episode, it was so sad to see pepper end up in the asylum, but I did feel the end was a tad unnecessary, it kind of stopped being an episode of freak show and more the pepper show

Also, how is Elsa gonna be a TV star when Stanley is a fraud :umm2:

Fetch The Bolt Cutters 19-12-2014 07:27 PM

peppers sister was kyle's mother/molester in coven

Jamesy 19-12-2014 09:40 PM

Thinking about it the only problem I have with the latest episode is that it centred around Pepper a lot. To a viewer that watched Asylum and/or for a fan of AHS this is a treat. Although for a casual viewer the episode probably would have felt too centred around one character they really don't have any prior connection with.

Pepper has effectively been a background character throughout the whole of Freakshow, so her suddenly coming into the limelight does seem a bit random. I think they should have had her involved more, let us seen the relationship between her and Elsa more.

Although it is obviously still beautifully acted/written. Would be great to see Naomi Grossman back next year as a different character. She has been outstanding with Pepper so I think she could do something really special with a different character in a different story.

On a side note the thing that worries me with Coven and especially Freakshow is that the main cast is bigger than it needs to be. There are so many characters being concentrated on that other characters are getting lost or suddenly pop up, I know Murphy must have a wish list of actors/actresses he wants on the show although he needs to clam down a bit and the cast needs to be lowered down, I'd rather have a smaller set of characters I can get to know on a deeper level rather than a lot of characters I only get to know vaguely about.

Murder House and Asylum got it spot on. Coven got messy. Freakshow is OK although I don't feel that connected to the characters as much as I did with Murder House/Asylum.

Smithy 19-12-2014 10:12 PM

Yeah I kind of agree, if a big cast is necessary, then fair enough, but with a lot of the characters, especially the next couple of eps with NPH in them, it definitely seems like it's just been written into the show just so they can flaunt off another guest star (patti Lupone for instance, like wtf did she actually bring to the show) that isn't really necessary or that doesn't really add much to the plot

I think S1 had the best cast because it was just a family, a neighbour and a maid, with lots of guest stars being the ghosts, hopefully something like that will be how the cast is centred next season.

Tom4784 20-12-2014 08:25 PM

That was easily the best episode of Freakshow.

Love that analysis, you're spot on but I have to say because I loved asylum so much I just loved this episode and the connection with pepper and asylum

It was heartbreaking. My heart broke for Pepper. When you care about a character that way, you know it is well written and well acted.

I wanted to steal Pepper away from it all and protect her. She is such an innocent beautiful soul.

I'm watching episode 10.
I feel ill; its so depressing

T* 23-12-2014 11:19 PM

I've gone all teary eyed.

I'm starting to think the entire Freak Show will end up murdered by the end and she'll get fame through being the sole survivor and somehow get a career in TV through that.

this is the only episode i've watched multiple times. 4 times actually. It was a masterpiece. the best single episode in the entire AHS series imho

Jamie Brewer's upcoming character in Freakshow was originally written for Leslie Jordan. He couldn't do it cause he was busy with CBB.
