I swear because I like it, I can survive without swear words, but why should I? they add emphasis to things. My Dad and two older swear, its always been around me, all my friends do, it;s **** natural at this stage. I swear in front of my parents but never ever say cunt.

I'm an 19 year old and I swear quite a lot. I'm well educated and don't swear to appear to be something I'm not. I just swear a lot and it's just a habit now. I'm Irish though and most Irish people Swear ;)

Dolphin-and-Whale 15-11-2009 10:03 PM

As McGaryy said about emphasis. that's a good point, I do swear to add emphasis to what I'm about to say.

I do a fair bit on a day to day basis, although the second I'm on here my standards are suddenly at regal levels and I try not to swear at all; there is always a polite alternative to get your point across. I swear in front of my parents; I'd feel very belittled if they told me not to. As somebody said, there's a difference between swearing at someone and swearing in front of someone.

Yes, there is Greg absolutely!

I think as you get older the need to swear diminishes as you become more confident in who you are and less bothered about how you appear to others.

Not nessesserily LT, alot of people I know swear alot but it's just the way they talk not because it's "cool" and they aren't kids!

Not at all! I think it's more of a cultural thing really, Irish people tend to swear alot!

Prole 16-11-2009 10:49 AM

If it's done by someone intelligent and eloquent, swearing can be very creative and expressive. However, if it's used because you can't think of another word to express your emotions, then it just makes you sound a bit thick.

Nicola 16-11-2009 10:58 AM

I don't swear much and certainly not for the sake of it, as I've been brought up not to swear and feel old enough to know better now. My parents aren't big on swearing and certainly don't condone it, whatever the circumstances and me and my partner are careful to ensure that we don't swear in front of our little girl or subject her to any swearing either.

I get what you mean; a lot of people swear for the shock factor when they're in their early teens. I tend to only swear if I'm either telling a rude joke or I'm pretending to be angry/genuinely angry; I don't just randomly drop swear words into conversations, if you get what I mean?

Yeah, I was the opposite though, I never swore when I was a teenager, I tend to swear more since I got older, mostly when I'm driving though so maybe that's why lol!
