He's talking about pride there, not about celebrating your heritage. Totally different.

I don't see how.

St.Patrick being the patron Saint of Ireland and it's a national holiday here, a day for celebrating Irish culture.

Watch it till the end. Magic stuff.

I liked it when more people joined and they were dancing together!

Aww every year at a village near me they have a summer fete and the Irish dancers come out and dance on the street! Morris Dancers too. Nice to still have a bit of community spirit!

Of course. Why would I have posted it if I hadn't watched it?

Well you should have noted then that he was just fascinated with the use of pride when talking about your ethnicity, that's all. He went on to say that there's nothing wrong with being happy about it, and that's what St.Patrick's Day is all about - celebrating your culture and Irishness.

But why celebrate something unless you're proud of it?

Do I sense a little bit of jealousy on this thread, maybe the fact that the Irish can celebrate their culture, traditions and identity and the English cant or dont? That may be because they have pride in their national identity. Whereas when the English do, the PC brigade have a go at them for flying the cross of St George.

setanta 16-03-2010 10:57 PM

And anyway, I think Carlin is just talking about the dangers of extreme patriotism and pride, but I don't think it's an unhealthy thing to be happy with your heritage and culture.

Yep, we'd never be allowed to have a proper St. Georges day here

and what do we have to celebrate now? Our culture has been much changed by various other cultures that have come into the country

All cultures change, if things dont evolve and adapt they die.

What do the Irish celebrate, or the Welsh or the Scottish?
