she did not like the look of them, it is up to her. Just the same if they were a couple of hoodies, gypsies, Emos or Vampires. if it was my Mum I would want her to have the final call.

You really believe that's good reason to refuse them? She didn't like them because they were gay, very simple.

Niamh. 22-03-2010 02:52 PM

What is your motivation for defending her anyway LT, do you not like gay people either?

I dont think I am defending her as such just not jumping on the usual hysterical gay bandwagon. For my British upbringing I just see 2 t wats who should have just gone elsewhere than stayed at that old bats gaff.

Well, can you not see why they would be annoyed though? I would be if it were me

Stu 22-03-2010 03:19 PM

So where does the buck stop, LT? Should Christians have the right, based on religious belief, to refuse people all sorts of services? Should a Christian, if he saw fit, refuse me entry to a gig because I was a non believer? Is it okay for a Christian to refuse to let an unmarried couple with a kid into a theme park?

Also, plenty of scientists believe genetics have an important role to play in a persons sexuality also. You say there is no proof beyond reasonable doubt that people are gay as a right of birth, but the vice versa also applies. It's funny how you demand scientific proof for certain things, but it doesn't matter for others .

The Mail called her a Christian but she was only quoted as saying "against her convictions" - ie I think she just thought I dont want 2 old men bumming each other on my laundry bill.

re the science thing. I am not asking for proof just stating what we currently know. As stated in the other thread using Science to disprove religion is not valid.

Either way, it's discrimination and it's illegal.

Besides, wasn't it called The Christian Inn or something :conf:.

Personally I believe the 'science cannot disprove religion' argument is complete farce but that's another argument for another thread. Like the one you set up that I posted in ...

LT I think the word you were looking for reference the religion thing is bigotry, you can be a bigot without being illegal, and judging by reports not only in the mail but elsewhere it definately looks as if she was discriminatory on the grounds of their sexuality, which unfortunately for her is illegal.

She owns and runs a small business, it is wise when doing so not only to be aware of the law and how it applies to her business but also to have a standard excuse prepared for when you refuse customers who turn up and offend your sensibilities. e.g. she could have said, without looking outraged, "I am really sorry but it appears as if you have been double booked, we only realised when the other people turned up and booked in, could I arrange alternate accomodation in another guest house etc, at no extra charge" etc.

Whilst it isnt an offence to be stupid, it is an offence to be discriminatory and ignorant enough to make statements to others including the police and the press stating that yes you do discriminate against same sex couples sharing the same bed.

Hoisted on her own petard methinks.

A Bigot, that was the fella I was after.

I very much doubt that she will be prosecuted by anyone. She was silly not to use a better excuse I grant you. Death in the family would have been my choice, that or Vampire convention.

That B & B Church Freaks Wife and Husband were just on TV on BBC London News
they have broken UK Laws.
And will be in Court at some point , over this Anti Gay attack.

xDramatick 22-03-2010 06:09 PM

Ugh, that is terrible!
I'd have put up more of an argument though, there's no way I'd let anyone get away with that sorta discrimination.

Idiots.

I can't believe you've just said that. Being gay isn't a bad thing, but nobody would choose to be gay. Do you realise how much easier it would be just to be straight. The fact you think it's a choice disgusts me.

And arista, 'New Labour's UK' is a hell of a lot more tolerant and equal than it was prior to it. I'd much rather have Brown, whose party has legislated civil partnerships, tackled homophobia and fought for other gay rights (such as adoption and the silly blood donation thing) - than Cameron, who has time and time again voted against gay adoption.

haha DISCRIMINATION IT SAYS! LISTEN MATE YOUR LUCKY YOU DONT LIVE IN SOMALIA WHERE THEY STONE GAYS TO DEATH, IF YOUR NOT HAPPY OVER HERE YOU KNOW WHERE TO GO!
