I have no problem at all with Irish people and if they want to sing that song at home all day long then that's just fine with me. I just thought it was a little naive and unthinking of her to sing it there, with Steve being around.

You should deffo drop off - Fields is a freedom song . It's not Steve's fault he was sent to a wrong war any more than the coffins coming back from Afghanistan

Why would she even know the English national anthem? She's not English.

the Celtic fans have the Tricolour out a matches. How is that any diffrent

It's not - it's Sectarianism, which is why I mentioned the Irish war is still happening in Scotland. If I go to Celtic Park, I take my tricola (I have no religion). If I go to see Scotland play England at anything (tiddlywinks even) I'd take the St Andrews cross that has been all over Europe in soccer and American Football.

I cannot go to the bar that is 100 metres from my house because I'm not a Hun with a Union Jack.

Asking an Irish person to sing God Save the Queen is out of order.

Okaaaaay...

The song is a Irish folk song, there is a republican chorus that some people sing but that doesn't make the original song a rebel song. It would be a rebel song if she sang the other chorus!

saying the word Hun is even more out of order. It shows just how much of a bigot you are.

Also plaeae explain to me why bting a tricola to Celtic match is any less offensive than a union jack.

I thought she wasn't singing it because she didn't know the words lol

soleila 28-06-2010 02:58 PM

I'm Irish and I don't know the English anthem - do you know ours?
Anyways, JJ was given an Oz uniform and requested an English one, prob trying to look like David Beckham. He knew the words cos he's basically British!

Hun, Mick/Paddy - it's how we call Rangers/Celtic fans without trouble - and as an East Fife fan from me they wear that term with honour.

How can I be bigoted when have no religion?????

Tricola is no less offensive - which is why we do it. My area is predominantly prodi and Unionist - we sing Fields or Irish National Anthem back at the Unionists just to annoy them as they have done singing God Save the Queen to us.

I'm mainly an East Fire Supporter and we chave a song about Cowdenbeath, the Cowden Famileee, a pisstake on the Adams Family, so BB has been quite funny

Get over it kiddo - nobody likes Engerland except the engerlish

I'm glad it's all a big laugh for you. But In northern Ireland Hun is an bigoted term. You could get fired from work, your head kicked in or even killed for saying it.

It causes great offence to half the population over here.

Perhapes to you it's all fun and games on the weekend.

It's the British BB. Even if it was the English BB people who are not from England have the right not to put on the shirt.

Lee. 28-06-2010 03:12 PM

Yeah. The English contestants all had English shirts on, David had a Welsh shirt, JJ apparently had an Aussie shirt and requested and England one for whatever reason and Caoimhe had an Irish one.. Fair enough I reckon?
And as for her singing the English anthem? Why would she know it/want to sing it? I certainly wouldn't stand with my hand on my heart and sing another country's anthem! She did right just to stay quiet!

Check again sprog - this is supposed to be UK -Big Brother, hence why you night well have Irish, Welsh or Scottish contestants at some point.

pixee 28-06-2010 03:21 PM

Why didn't JJ have australia shirt?

Anyway national anthem is outdated but if your a pro footballer guess you have to but i wouldn't sing it and i'm english.

It is not a big laugh - my cousin is still in the UVDA and the war is alive and well here. I object to your dismissing this

Ireland isn't part of the UK. UK Big Brother has Irish people in it because they hold auditions in Dublin. Simple as.

Anyway this thread is ridiculous, I wouldn't have sang the English National Anthem if I was in the house.

Because:

1. I don't know the words
2. I'm not English

Just like I wouldn't expect an English person to know/sing the Irish National Anthem if they were on an Irish TV Show.

I think this is fair, i wouldn't sing it and i am english because i don't agree with the words as relevant to england anymore.

BUT it is BB lol we won't solve political issues here as some other people are bringing into this thread. Trust the irish and their stupid conflict/war to bring the mood down lol.
