Probably showing my age, but I miss MTV2 when it was called M2, before it started playing nothing but hard rock.

It can be decent to be honest, but yeahh FATM is not rock. Kerrang! and Lava ftw, Scuzz can be okay too sometimes.

Let's all just stick to VH1 Classic.

I can't help it if I rarely listen to Jazz and stuff.

It's got nothing to do with that, really. I don't listen to Opera but I know it's not the same as Dubstep, which I also don't listen to.

I can't really answer the question. It's almost too obvious. I suggest wikipedia. I mean ... Jazz is Jazz and Blues is Blues. And Soul is Soul. They cross paths but don't they all?

Rock, and in turn everything that came from rock, came from the blues FFS. Rock was just really angry, swaggering, teen blues about nicking a Silk Cut off yer mum and stuff.

I don't blame you! I reckon Satan himself must have invented jazz!

Jazz is much more instrumental than both blues or soul.

Blues is probably a lot more 'white' than the other two in that its influenced mainstream rock a lot more: Bob Dylan, Rolling Stones, etc. It's essentially singing about one's troubles, and comes from the deep south's black community.

Soul...more vocal, Aretha, Otis etc. Think gospel meets blues.

[i'm not saying these are precise definitions but they're what I think separates the 3]

And if you want to learn more about the origins of all those genres I suggest you go here: http://www.thisisbigbrother.com/foru...ad.php?t=92234

Well both Jazz and Soul evolved out of blues in different ways. Jazz more directly, Soul from rhythm & blues and gospel. But I just find it ironic that you could listen to Miles Davis' back catalogue and probably find more musical diversity than in the entire heavy metal genre.

Stu 16-07-2010 04:52 PM

Miles Davis' Backwash is a great name for a heavy metal band.
