You have to make a conscious effort to change your accent, otherwise it will always stay with you. Often its about fitting in when people move to partures new, they dont want to be seen as an outsider, so they adopt the local accent - or try to.

Well Michelle must've got a taste of fame, hopped it to London and thought it would be better to sound a bit posh. Cos lets face it, she was a Gerodie girl from the good old estate before.

Complete rubbish.

I loved it when i first moved to london and everyone commented on my welsh accent :)

Obviously im constantly around londoners so ive unconsiously picked it up.

I DID NOT CHOOSE TO TO FIT IN.

No it's not rubbish. I can asure you that in spite of living in Lancashire for many years I still talk like Frank Skinner crossed with Adrian Chiles.

Kaaarenn! 28-08-2010 01:14 PM

InOne 28-08-2010 01:16 PM

Well mine has changed so it is obviously rubbish to say that it applies to everyone :)

I think some people can lose accents quicker then others, I've lived in the black country all my life but I only really developed the accent when I was about 12 quite suddenly. I think if I ever moved away I'd lose this accent pretty quick too.

Then again since she's been doing 'TV Work' she might have consciously chosen to lose it.

I have 4 children ( grown up) none of them speak Yorkshire ,my eldest daughter who moved to Wales ,speak with a Welsh twang ,my other 3 talk very ice, everyone comments on it ,but even though I speak strong Yorkshire when they were small i pulled them up if they spoke slang
