There's no need to be angry just because people don't know things that you think they should. D:

Ah, I dont want to argue, but you did say she wouldnt know because she isnt German.

It affected the whole world, and the effect of Hitlers actions asre still stamped firmly in our lives today.

MeMyselfAndI 29-09-2010 05:07 PM

i said that because germany probably get taught about hitler more than we do

It wasnt so much the not-knowing Hitler that annoyed me, that surprised me but it didnt anger me.

It was the "were not from Germany so it didnt really affect stacey " that kinda sent me off on one because of the huge effect Hitler had on the world. I would never normally get that annoyed, it's just been a long day

Nah, they dont actually. They're pretty ashamed of Hitler and dont do anyway near as much teaching as we do, they actually think it's pretty strange the obsession this country and its education system has with him.

If my 15 year old son had come home and told me he had never heard of Hitler, I would have hauled him straight out of the useless school he was attending.

I find it hard to believe you have never watched a war film or a documentary featuring Hitler and the Nazis. You would have to be blind, deaf and dumb not to have heard of Hitler at some point from a very early age.

Socrates, Emperor Constantine, St. Augustine, Martin Luther (not ML King) and Napoleon probably had a far greater effect on the world, but far fewer people know who they are.

Well if Hitler had won WW2 you would have known about it alright, as you'd be living in a dictatorship today - that is unless you were Jewish, Ethnic, Gay or Disabled, in which case you would have been exterminated at birth no doubt.

I do remember doing something about him, not sure what though.

Probably just never learnt it or wasn't listening, maybe I was away then, I've no idea.

It's not a useless school either..

There's something gravely wrong with our education system if a 14/15 year old does not know who Hitler is! Not having a go at you Stacey, just whoever is teaching your generation :)

I'm 15, and I've known who Hitler is for as long as I remember.

I think I know of all of them (studying Napolean for my A2 levels as it happens) other than Socrates. You're right actually, plenty of others have had a greater effect in the shaping of the world, Hitler's actions and (in particular) atrocities have been made far more well-known though.

Jesus existed. Its a fact. Whether he did what he did or was who he said he was is an entirely different argument

Captain.Remy 29-09-2010 07:09 PM

Jesus, by far. Whatever what he did is true or not, this guy influenced our background and heritages for thousands of years.

Gandhi is also on the top of the list. Such an inspiration for a lot lot lot of people.

And then Hitler. Alright, he's not so popular, he's quite infamous, what he did was wrong (obviously) yet he left his footprint for decades and what went from his ideas changed the world we live in today. Not considering him as a powerful and influential person is a mistake. Historians do consider him as a symbol.
So if by famous, you mean, well know but not necessarily popular, then he should be there.

Then we have the casual Michael Jackson, Elvis, Barack Obama and myself.
