Who the hell are you to suggest I'm not Dutch? I was told growing up I could be anything I wanted and I want to be Dutch.

Isin't that the message your hoebag hero promotes?

If you people are seriously trying to tell me that you've never heard more than 3 Americans say something like 'Yeah but see I'm half Irish yeah, it's so cool 'cus my grandad's cousin was from Eye-or-land and that's why I'm like so Irish.' then you're all bullsh*tting me.

That is simply the most ridiculous thing I've ever heard. You've never been to America obviously. Claiming to be Irish??? Do you know how many ethnicities are in America? You might as well say that Americans all claim to be aliens. Irish is nothing in America. This is simply the funniest thing I've ever read on here! :xyxwave:

Do you know how many people fled to America because of the stability of their homelands? Italians came in by the shiploads.

Americans are not talking about Ireland. Man, we should get Jon Stewart to read what's been said on here. The entire country would weep with laughter!:joker: Talk about being 'out there'!

Really? Even the chick as your avatar, one of the most famous Americans of all time?

Livia 07-09-2011 12:04 AM

A poll of people who have not travelled much and realised that there are cool people and morons wherever you go in the world.

I've spent a lot of time in the US. I've spent St Patrick's Day in New York, Colorado and Illinois. Didn't look like Irish was nothing in America...

I think the "coolness" they were referring to was about the culture of each country, or the stereotypes of each countries culture. The stereotype of the average French person, is cooler than the stereotype of the average German. It's really just about stereotypes.
Also i'm sure the survey was carried out in English, so obviously English speakers are mostly exposed to a lot of American media, because it is the largest English speaking country.

lostalex 08-09-2011 05:05 AM

I'm surprised Japan wasn't in the top 10 of cool countries. I think most people see Japan as pretty cool.

If you really want to see how cool they are in the States, Perhaps one of us go on to an American forum, and post a thread about how the UK is the No.1 coolest nation, and the USA is number 6. See whether they would treat it with the same humour and grace that people have on this thread.

To be honest, i doubt it would get enuf attention on American BB thread. They prolly just ignore it an keep talking about BB. American's arn't obsesed with these type of multinational polls as everyone else is.

Most American's would just say "why are we cool???" lol

We American's don't see ourselves as cool at all. So most American's would be surprised to see a poll like this.

(and as far as everyone on the thread having humour and grace, umm, are you reading the same thread as me??? lol)

If you don't consider more than 10% of 300,000,000 people to be 'a lot' then I'm sure you're right.

American's are very friendly. Now i wonder how many of those people claiming to be Irish would you want to speak on behalf of the Irish? Would you say they were Irish?

How many of them could speak the Irish language that you met? just out of curiosity?

They were about as Irish as the Jersey Shore kids are Italian. lol right?
