Well, we didn't do British History (just a more general European history) but I found Irish History very interesting

Have you had a chance to visit any of the places Dezzy - not the Greek hedonistic party scene, I mean the historical area/archelogical sites etc? If you have you'll understand. If you haven't and do have an interest - it's unbelievable, though bit diff from 30 odd years ago from a touristy pov.

If you fancy a different type of holiday - I recommend.

You're so right. I took my sons to mainland Greece about 8 years ago and it was amazing. We visited Olympia, Corinth, Athens, Delphi, Mycenae, Epidaurus and so many other places associated with Greek mythology - an absolute incredible holiday, and such beautiful, mountainous scenery. We were based in a little seaside village called Tolon very near a town called Argos! What's more it was such a cheap holiday, even though Greece had, at that time only recently joined the Euro and prices had just started to rise. However, we only went for a fortnight, and you really need a good month or longer to do it justice, and visit some of the remoter areas such as Monemvasia on the pelopponese peninsula.

Greece  I've never done any Ancient Greek mythology but I've studied some of their Philosophy, even though we'd pretty much all disagree with it now some it's very impressive

Yes, Rome is fab, so easy to get around, though Vatican City is a bit tacky with the rooftop souvenir shops!

Yep, I was so very lucky when I was a teen. Did Crete, Athens, Rome, a few off beat islands that I can't recall (Simi I think was one and Kos??) - doing the whole Acropolis, Parthenon, Knossos site, Colossuem, Catacombs........ a lot of Turkey and Cyprus has similar. I was so fortunate to go so long ago, as a lot of areas now, you can't enter or take flash photography - but it's still utterly amazing.

Like you, I did a lot of travelling in my youth, visited some amazing places when I was in the merchant navy, have been to Israel, Alaska, San Francisco, Caribbean, on the cruise ships, and also worked as a resort rep and coach courier all over Europe. I always had itchy feet and am really glad I did so much before I settled down. Travelled a lot in the Middle East when I married as my ex husband was working in Kuwait, Saudi Arabia, Oman, Bahrain etc. Also loved Egypt, the holiday of a lifetime. Next year I am planning to go to China, and I really can't wait:spin:

Looks like you and I appear to have trodden similar paths - but I'm envious of your Egyptian trip - despite living across the red sea (Jeddah) in Saudi - the one place we never got to was Egypt - we were meant to do it on the return journey back in but there were bombings and much unrest at Luxor and Giza so dad chose the safer option.

My best friend travelled to China year before last and they had a blast - 2 ladies in their mid 40's - almost backpacking style and they loved it - absolutely raved about it. If you do go, if you want me to get any hints etc from her, just say the word.
