I think you of all people on here know my thoughts on words and beliefs like this, so it's certainly not a case of me condoning the use of the word.

I should've made it clear in the OP that my issue is with these endless 'formal warnings' they give out, in the past you would have had to repeat certain actions a few times to receive one, now it seems they'll give one out regardless. Housemates used to be reprimanded and threatened with a formal warning if they were to repeat the same behaviour, and that's exactly what I think would've been sufficient in this circumstance. A reminder that although she was just quoting what had been said and Big Brother understood that, just not to use it again or she'd then receive a formal warning. That's my issue.

No, I'm not shocked. I've been on this forum a while. Besides you'd already replied to that particular post hadn't you? I had nothing else to add. Is that okay?

Hello Jack...

I remember them throwing a girl out for quoting a song lyric that contained the word, no malice, no insult intended... a song lyric. But in this case, I think James (okay, and fingers...) hit the nail on the head when they said that BB shouldn't have broadcast it in the first place.

We don't all have to share your views on that. We all know what word we are talking about - whether someone actually typed it in full is pretty incidental.

And what James said is true, they should never have broadcast it in the first place.

I wasn't shocked, merely surprised and Germyle DIDN'T "type it in full" it was a variation that left nothing to the imagination

The full transcripts are in this thread >http://www.thisisbigbrother.com/foru...=236218&page=3

By the way Robertson's the Jam makers also fell foul of 20th Century PC correctness and had to replace a trade mark, as did A.G Barr the manufacturers of Barr's Irn Bru.

Josy 24-08-2013 11:09 PM

It doesn't matter if it was quoted she still used the word when there was no need for it.

joeysteele 24-08-2013 11:11 PM

The warning was over the top and unwarranted.

However Carol would have been better not even bringing the episode up anyway in the first place so may now learn to hold in her comments on others.

EXACTLY!
All she needed to say was say he had a race row. These lost women always have big Gobs. Lord knows why they don't use their brain. Denise looks like queen compared to carol ffs.

You don't know my views on that , and if you read the posts Livia said she had never seen the word actually written , also I think the fact someone wrote Shut up ------ is a vital part of this convo seeing as how the word itself prompts such a lot of controversy.

Big Brother only gave her a warning because the language was inappropriate and obviously we both agree that the language she used definitely was. Its not an appropriate word to use in any context on any TV show.

There are several ways she could have explained what Ron did without saying anything close to the n word.

I don't understand yours or anybody elses huff about this whole thing. A girl used a horrible word and was warned not to do it again.

Everybody should be happy.

KingBilly 24-08-2013 11:18 PM

omg did she say nig**r?

fingers 24-08-2013 11:25 PM

They constantly censor Live Feed but decide to BROADCAST a clip that they deem to be racist so that they can have a huge headline in their OWN newspaper about racism in CBB. It beggars belief.

swinearefine 24-08-2013 11:31 PM

I actually cannot believe she got a warning over that. Even knowing what PC bastards BB is, I never would have believed they would do that given the context of simply quoting someone. And it's completely hypocritical because Big Brother then used the word THEMSELVES so their justification that any use of the word at all is inappropriate is total bull****. I switched off immediately and I'm done with this series.

flamingGalah! 24-08-2013 11:39 PM

They have got pathetic with their warnings! Completely stupid when the likes of Connor who should have actually been thrown out of the house, was given money to leave, now they are dishing out warnings like biscuits at a coffee morning! :idc:

I agree with others that this is purely for the sake of Desmond's trashy rag so that they can have Carol on the front page, making her out to be a member of the Ku Klux Klan

Kizzy 24-08-2013 11:48 PM

I think she did it on purpose, let's hope her career goes the same way as his desperate old mare. (In case anyone's in any doubt I don't like carol mcgiffin)

I've just said this on a different thread , and think that it fits here as well Kizzy!

It's true that I like Ron Atkinson...and am glad to be supporting him [though i'm pleased that he'll probably be evicted on wednesday...because I feel that he is way out of his comfort zone and has already been paid for his appearance anyway]....but my point is that 'BOTH' Carole and Louie were playing a rather obvious game of besmirching a fellow contestants name to the public...and got caught out [well at least one of them did]!...Spence pretending that he didn't know was a pile of crap, taller than he is!!...Everybody has known that Ron Atkinson was going to be on the show for weeks!...Are we supposed to believe that when he found out that he was going to be joining him in the house...that he wouldn't just google big Ron's wiki page and know everything that he wanted to know? [and that goes for all of them!]....Is it a coincidence that Ron was the only housemate that Louie thought "he wouldn't have anything in common with"?...Ha! Ha!...i'll bet that him and Bruce are going to be bezzies! :joker:
And it has been twice that McGiffin has brought Ron's past cock-up to our attention in a matter of 1-2 days...in the DR and to Louie...do you not smell a particularly cut-throat game plan from the daytime dragon??

Cheers.

Videostar 25-08-2013 12:02 AM

Why doesn't Carol have the guts and admit, she doesn't like Ron, and stop re-hashing Ron's comment that he made around 10 years ago.

Carol is the one acting like some sort of moral guardian.

Tbf I think they should be obliged to disclose it every time a housemate gets a warning, it's something the viewers should know. And although people are criticising them now for airing it everyone was slating the producers during BB13 because they didn't show a lot of the warnings, seems they're sorta damned if they do, damned if they don't

Jamie. 25-08-2013 12:15 AM

What was said? I missed it because I was collecting my take away LOL.

Miss it all.

Videostar 25-08-2013 12:15 AM

Does Ron know yet that his "racist comment" he made along time ago has been openly discussed by Carol with other people behind his back?

She didn't repeat the quote in the privacy of her own home, she said it on Big Brother with cameras on her.

Lol.. I did type it in full! It's obviously censored by the swear filter.

I honestly can't think if a more offensive word.. But I don't think a hm quoting some ody else can be deemed offensive.
