Just to clarify I don't like his opinion, but I'm not going to hate him for expressing something he was asked.

It's quite upsetting really.

Yes, I fully support homophobic actions.

Me. I Am Salman 05-01-2014 09:33 PM

Did he really say that? That's defo out of line and offensive though

Luisa told him to shut up and for his sake he should have listened. If you're going to talk like that on a television show then yes of course you're going to be spoken to. And if I remember the conversation correctly they didn't actually issue him a formal warning, just merely reminded him that what he was saying is potentially offensive to viewers. Correct me if I'm wrong on that though.

This is what religious delusion does to people though, it's sad

What gives you the right to soap box gay rights (in a totally rubbish and biased manner) and end it all by calling religious beliefs delusional. Jack, you need to proof read before you post son.

What if the question had been - "Evander, do you agree that The Holocaust was brilliant?" and he replied "Yes." would that have been okay because he was just expressing his opinion over something he was asked?

The whole 'its his personal view' argument is so flawed.

I am sure Luisa would have been aware of his Christian views. If he goes then I do hope it's in the pairs they went in and he takes her with him.

Someone being gay is the same as you being straight. It's the way you were born, the way your chromosomes developed. It's not a disease or an abnormality that can be cured or treated and if you can't see that then it just reflects your level of intelligence. It's really simple to understand!

I don't think anybody HATES him Ben. Evander had quite a big fan base in comparison to others so it's more the shock of him saying what he said which has brought this type of response.

The public can be fickle anyway as this can be argued all night. But on the other hand Evander may do something tomorrow that will completely change our opinion's on him.

joeysteele 05-01-2014 09:35 PM

I may surprise some here as I do believe people have the right generally to say what they believe as long as they don't stir up trouble for others.

However, I did find his comparison with being gay with someone born handicapped and that over time that can be helped to be 'cured' in in some way as a totally unacceptable thing to say under any circumstances.
That would have been totally ridiculous were he to have got away with making a comparison like that.

Also, this is the big brother house and in fact no housemates ever get to have such a thing as a 'private' conversation while in there, the programme is watched by the BB staff and the viewers so all the more need for care as to what they say.

He wasn't offensive as in strongly stating his view but he was way out as to even being remotely right as to anything he said concerning the subject,(in my opinion he was anyway).

No...

What makes you ignorant is the fact that you deem yourself to be so grown-up and wise but all you do is tell others to 'grow up' and you stand up for homophobic views, which are of course ignorant.

I never said you did Ben, I know for a fact you wouldn't.

I was only quoting the title of the thread.

MeMyselfAndI 05-01-2014 09:36 PM

Evander is homophobic, he didn't just have views, he went on too insult gay people

Doogle 05-01-2014 09:36 PM

I think everyone's doing a bit much on Ben. Nowhere has he been homophobic or said he liked or agreed with Evander's views.

It's not a good view to have but really someone like him is unlikely to ever change their mind so it's not worth making a big fuss about.

Yes, because it is wrong and if you disagree then you are wrong too. Sorry about that.

But then maybe asking for an opinion on homosexuality from someone who frequently expresses racist and xenophobic views on this forum isn't the best idea...

Now what are the odds that someone would ask that question??:joker:

No what is flawed is that people need to realise the context of his comments. If he had actively got up and started saying that to people then yes that would be a reason to get annoyed etc, but he didn't he had a one on one conversation with Luisa who prompted the discussion.
