Oh Ok

Well i am getting Kinda Used to it Now lol

xGemmax 08-01-2007 11:19 PM

oh i just noticed the change, i dont really mind, but it seems a bit pointless :conf:

Diablo 08-01-2007 11:27 PM

I think its a good compromise.. but i really dont understand why it matters for people to know how many times they have posted..?

AnthonyX 08-01-2007 11:34 PM

Mine is still the same. :puzzled:

EDIT: Nevermind, it must just be because I have under 1000 posts.

Diablo 08-01-2007 11:36 PM

maybe..??

Red Moon 08-01-2007 11:37 PM

Just because some people see post count as some kind of status. Be it people with lots of post or those with a few that resent not have many posts. Some people where actively trying to push there post counts up in some kind of race. Something had to be done.

In the end it's not about how many posts you have it's what you say that matters. A good long post is worth so many more a lot short post that don't say anything. Quality posts are more important.

This isn't MSN it's a forum for discussions. Not everyone is logged in 24/7. People come and read the board and want to take part in something a bit different.

Another problem we have and we can all work onto together to solve is producing good thread tittles and the duplication of threads topics. Having a meaningful thread title means people post to it. If you are being cleaver in the title the thread dies. And we all at times think we are the first person to post a thread, but we all need to check that the thread hasn't already been started.

The cut off point is 500 posts. then you will go to 500+. It helps us know the new members from the older members. I hope that helps answer your question.

BigSister 08-01-2007 11:41 PM

the only reason i have such a large post count is that ive been here nearly 5 years in February if i had been here like dan/jamie i might be still round about 4-5 thousand mark so sometimes im embarrased by it

Thanks. Doesn't matter to me anyway as I don't post that much. I'll get to 500 eventually.

Red Moon 08-01-2007 11:48 PM

I know BigSister, the number of post per day shows you as being a steady poster over the years.

It is great we have people like you on the site. It adds a bit of history to the place.

All my posts come from playing the game threads over the years. I'm a sucker for word association games when things get quiet. Just gives me something to do. I'm rather glad the stopped the games threads adding to the post count, but I fear it will be years before one of the other forums appears as the most too in my profile.

BigSister 08-01-2007 11:59 PM

aww thanks maybe it will be the BB8 forum as you are in the CBB forum a lot now and BB8 will be on a lot longer

Sophii3x 09-01-2007 07:01 AM

I dont like the new thing:sad:

Ella 09-01-2007 11:32 AM

Lol its weird this new post count thing! It's cool though, It just makes it easier to sort the old members like BigSis, Dan ect from then newer members.

MarkWaldorf 09-01-2007 02:23 PM

I think the new post count is the best way to solve both these arguments.

Great idea.

Bells 09-01-2007 03:54 PM

As soon as I saw it I found it weird, but now thinking about it the whole 5000+ thing IMO is a good idea as for me, I don't tend to focus on my post count anyway; instead, you can have proper discussions/arguments whilst at the same time being able to distinguish between members.

BigSister 09-01-2007 04:30 PM

Yeah Ash has a good point im just thinking will the next point for the 10000 members will be 20000 posts or will it just stick at 10000

Chrizzle 09-01-2007 07:44 PM

Aww I can't get used to it.
I used to enjoy seeing how many posts ive done. I guess i'll get used to it and forget about it.

Just check your profile, it says there. But the thing is its not even accurate anyway since the Games posts don't count. Like for me, I am a fairly new member and most of my posts are in the Games forum so it looks like I have hardly any posts when I probably have double what my post count says. So knowing your post count on here doesn't mean anything since its not accurate. I think you should keep this new system.

Princess 09-01-2007 09:10 PM

Oooh I'm liking it!

xGemmax 11-01-2007 11:58 PM

Im not liking it now, i thought i could get used to it but its weird. This is the only forum i know of that has this:cloud: I miss the old way!

Red Moon 12-01-2007 12:24 AM

The problem is people are posting for just increasing their post counts. To them it doesn't matter what they post as long as they get another post.

You have to understand we had to do something and, other than removing the post count, this is what we came up with. I'm sure a lot of people miss the number of posts they have done next to their posts, but I'm sure most would agree some of the pointless posts were destroying the forum. To put it bluntly, people were spamming the forum because they think that post count equals status. However in the real world one good, well thought out post that starts a debate, is worth so many one liners by people that without reading what has gone before.

Respect on the site is generated by good posts not quick posts.

Is it possible for us to find out how many posts we would have if all our C&G posts were removed?

Oooo, now that would be a very interesting thing to view!

lily. 14-01-2007 03:38 PM

The C & G posts could be counted again now that the post count has been removed from the side panel. The problem has been solved by removing that in my opinion.
