Essentially the thread really is

"do you think that when you fall in love you will think that you have met the perfect partner?"

and of course the answer is yes

and in some cases it works out like that but in the majority of cases it does not

Not true.Souls were in religions long before Christianity. The ancient Egyptians for instance had the 'Ka' which was essentially the same as the soul.

yes in a funny kind of way I do. not just as lovers but as friends, some people connect almost instantly at a higher level. even great comic partners like laurel and hardy, Morecombe and wise, the 2 ronnies, or writing partners or directors and movie stars like bogey and bacall, spencer tracy and Katherine Hepburn, john ford and john wayne or scorseses and deniro...or mentor and apprenstice like mike tyson and cus damato...
they say deniro and Scorsese don't even need to speak to each other on set its a whole series of nods winks the odd grunt and hey presto another masterpiece....when a couple find love for life, that is magic. to me that consists of everything physical mental spiritual attraction, admiration, intrigue, mystery, lust, passion, compassion, teamwork, support, excitement, loyalty etc etc its a rare but wonderful thing I do believe in

Guess it depends on the definition. If it's a feeling of deep love, sure. If it's about finding "the one" who you have some sort of spiritual connection with, definitely not.

Ultimately it's all brain chemical ****ery like any emotion and it's not as nearly as romantic as it fools you into thinking it is.

Yeah if soul mates are real then they should be the dictionary definition.

Sometimes, I imagine the picture of one of them in the paper, if the other one unexpectedly died. Heartbreaking! :bawling:

A 'soul mate' is our own personal metaphor regarding how we feel about a person.

I went to primary school with the woman who is still my closest friend. We've stuck with each other like a stamp to a letter for many years and I honestly couldn't imagine life without her.

My husband. Besides mutual love, we know how to make one another laugh; we never tire of each others company and I believe we have brought each other great happiness. I can't imagine life without him either.

my soul mate is the person/people I can turn to, no matter what and know they would absolutely want to help me and visa versa. Therefore, my dog is not my soul mate, my parents who would likely just tell me to pull myself together are not my soul mates and my children who wouldn't know what to do or say if I went to them with a serious problem, are not my soul mates either. That though, doesn't mean I don't have immense love for them...just a different sort of love.

Ernie Wise was like that with Eric, and was never really the same once Eric had passed.

No soulmates do not exist. It's merely a coincidence to find someone to which you have a lot in common. There's 7 billion people on the planet, you're bound to find someone who likes what you like.

7 billion ... so the chances of finding one you such an affinity with must be pretty remote then?

Dominic 08-11-2015 08:53 PM

Soulmates exist but by soulmates it's just people who you have a lot in common with not that you have identical views and opinions with

King Gizzard 08-11-2015 08:56 PM

that's not what soul mate is, some soul mates don't always agree, in fact in some cases opposites attract
