Say what you will about Lily but her music is certainly more memorable and interesting. James Bay is just a one hit wonder who's only gotten as far as he has because the public seem to be obsessed with boring af white guys with guitars and no sense of individuality and a uniform approach to music.

But Lily Allen is just a White Girl With A Guitar?

I agree with you on James Bay being dull, but tbf so is Lily Allen imo who often also talk sings as I like to call it.

And out of interest are you against any white male playing the Guitar? I'm only interested because I know that some people have a weird issue with it even if the act is decent.

it's annoying as well because it's actually a topic that I really enjoy discussing but it's impossible with the constant "the boy who cried wolf" routine

Adam, if you knew a little about the Brits, you'd know that Lily wouldn't have been eligible in the first place since she hasn't had a top 40 album in the past year (and I don't see why she would have, considering she hasn't released one)

Why haven't BTS been nominated for best international group that's what I want to know :fist:

Why should lily be nominated she didn't release any new music in 2015

Most of the trash who make the charts these days wouldn't even know how to write a letter let alone a song

RARE?! Are you serious?

You can't swing Ellie Goulding in a Record Company lobby without hitting a multitude of Singer Songwriters. EVERY year there's some boring man with a guitar nominated that's just the same as the boring man with a guitar that was nominated the year before.

James Bay is generic and uninteresting, he is the definition of a cookie cutter artist.

On the rare occasions that I've seen her live performances she has an Acoustic Guitar like James Bay often does.

The amount of artists who don't write their own songs out weighs those who do by a large amount

MB. 22-02-2016 08:24 PM

Of course, this is all heavily ironic considering boybands such as HomeTown would struggle writing their own names, never mind a song

MB. 22-02-2016 08:24 PM

(or, y'know, One Direction or anybody else nominated of that ilk)

Which performances? I've never seen her play a guitar, do you mean a male/female playing a guitar in the background? I wouldn't call that the same

well I'm pretty sure she doesn't play the guitar in any of her songs but yeah that's besides the point. it's not really about "who's more boring?", it's about the lack of knowledge for diverse artists The Brits carries, and James Bay completely ignored the question and went for a cheap snipe because he's nominated himself

Lily writes her own music, if that's the point you're trying to get at

MB. 22-02-2016 08:27 PM

Even if Lily did play the guitar (which... she doesn't), there literally aren't any other women for her to compete with in that market? Yet if you look at the men, you've got James Bay, Ed Sheeran, Jack Garratt, Passenger, Hozier, Jamie Lawson... and that's before you've even left the UK and Ireland/got onto bands

Black Dagger 22-02-2016 08:28 PM

Is Passenger still a thing?

(not forgetting George Ezra, Jake Bugg, Damien Rice, Tom Odell, Ben Howard...)

True that a lot of her performances that I've seen are getting helped from background Music with Guitar playing.

Out of interest as I've had nobody answer me yet on it, are some of you just against Guitar players? Because I really like a J-Rock Group called Ling Tosite Sigure, and I'm thinking that if by some weird reality that they did win Best International Act at The Grammys would people just call the lead singer an AGWG? Because I've even seen people like Hozier and George Ezra (who I happen to class as decent) get called boring and WGWG in a negative way just because they dare to play the Guitar.

Just goes to show that these acts are as manufactored as your typical X Factor winner, they get dropped after one album to make room for the next generic man with a guitar.

RichardG 22-02-2016 08:31 PM

Is the point that people just don't like guitars or is it that people don't like the boring generic "indie" songs that they play with it

Because I thought it was the latter

Yeah that happens with most music artists, background music.. Or are they supposed to humm the song themselves whilst singing?

Indie is never generic.:nono::joker:

"White girl with a guitar" =/= "white girl who sat near a guitar once"
