And Ukip will also fight to take fish and chips out of VAT, he will say. Under current rules the traditional British dinner carries a 20% VAT charge.
Is this not just UKIP in a nutshell? :joker:. Fish and chips, a pint of warm beer and a ****ing flat-cap. Basically a bunch of sad, bitter old lads reminiscing about "the good old days" and trying to preserve the most banal, outdated aspects of British life. Yawn. "I have a vision for the future! And it is 1962."

Aging yuppies... aw, you have to feel sorry for them, give them a brick phone, a pinstripe suit (with braces) and a filofax and they'll be in Thatchers heaven.

It wasn't me, it was UKIP .

"Give them a cheaper chippy tea! They'll like that and vote for us! And no tobacco tax but ONLY on cigars and pipe tobacco!"

A brick... a brick what is that you say? "Telly-phone"? Is that like a telegram?

I'll have a bit of that. A fantastic period in music just about to happen, Alf Garnett will shortly be in our lives and England will win the World cup in four year's time.

Rather that, then this year 1984 we're currently living in.

I'll give you the music part.

But the general sentiment... That's the inherent flaw in wanting to wind the clock back. "Now is bad, let's go back to before it was bad". If you go back to before it was bad, bad is still coming.

The ONLY hope is always forward. Never look back. Hope that what comes next is better.

"Hope that what comes next is better. "

Thats the Spirit
TS.

The grass is always greener kind of thinking. It rarely is. Seems much more likely there is a lot of bad to look forward to. You think the world will become a better place - I would say the opposite. Progressive, forward-thinking - they are just words, pretty empty words really. Forward to what exactly?

In general :suspect: as opposed to backward?..

Withano 17-02-2017 05:35 PM

I hope they get zero seats instead of the 1 in the next election so they can fade back into irrelevance.

"The grass is always greener" perfectly describes the idea that things "used to be so much better so we should go back to that". In fact it's the very origin of the phrase

That comes down to opinion, not fact. We can learn a lot from the past. Advanced technology for example does not mean a better world. It can have the opposite effect. Where we gain in some areas we lose in others.

Young people don't understand that and never will coz you can't put an old head on young shoulders ! People have to learn that for themselves, often to their cost.

Are you saying you would like to go backwards? Is that why you support UKIP? (Thats how your post came across, correct me if I'm wrong).

Alf 17-02-2017 05:55 PM

I once read that there was a time during the Roman empire, that people only used to go to work for two days a year. Can we go back to those times please?

I'm not saying you have to look forward and move forward because things always improve, I'm saying you can't keep trying to move backwards because you literally CAN'T, cannot, whether it was better or not.

Yes, he seems like the perfect leader for such a loathsome party x

Seems like a vile man to me and there do now seem to be some 'honesty issues' following recent revelations concerning Hillborough and his association with a charity?! Loath UKIP and all they stand for. The BNP in posh suits that's all.
