i don't get the big deal about tuition fees

we don't pay them back until we earn over £21,000 and then the payment amount is minimal

then if it's not paid off by 55 or whatever then it's all scrapped

what's the problem

yeah i'd rather not have the debt but at the same time it's not a big deal imo

Greg! 18-05-2017 08:47 PM

I'm still screaming at when Leanne and Nicola ripped Paul to shreds

Kazanne 18-05-2017 08:59 PM

Would have been better with May and Corbyn there.

Dead in the water because they didn't do well in the locals. Nether did Corbyn. When did Corbyn last do well. Much of the country have been telling Corbyn to 'let I'd go' and he hasn't listened.

I think you're a little out of touch nationally tbh.

It's a debt that at 21 seems fine, but down the when you want to get a mortgage or support a family that debt might not be so easy to pay, down the line who is to say they won't move the goalposts on repayment terms, nothing is set in stone

Cherie 19-05-2017 06:41 AM

I had to laugh at Nutall saying he would reinvest cuts to the foreign aid budget in the NHS, the brass neck of him ....im sure any cuts would never get to the NHS

You are correct.
Also even if not in a job paying enough to have to be paying the debt back.
It will still be there to be taken into account should anyone be applying for a mortgage etc too.
Which can affect even being granted a mortgage in the first place.

Missed this last night I was watching Kat and Alfie - can someone kindly summarise who did well? Thanks. R.

DemolitionRed 19-05-2017 09:06 AM

I missed last night as we were out with friends but I intend to watch it this evening. We did however, arrive home in time to see Question Time and that was pretty good.

I have read some of the Tory manifesto and found this particular section rather chilling.

"The British public deserves to have confidence in our democracy. We will legislate to ensure that a form of identification must be presented before voting, to reform postal voting and to improve other aspects of the elections process to ensure that our elections are the most secure in the world. We will retain the traditional method of voting by pencil and paper, and tackle every aspect of electoral fraud."

Its estimated that 3.5 million http://www.independent.co.uk/news/uk...-a7742666.html do not have photo ID and won't be able to vote as a result.

Most of these without ID are in the lower income bracket. This will no doubt benefit the Tories.

There are only 2 types of photo ID in the UK and that's driving licence and passport. What if you don't drive and never travel abroad?

smudgie 19-05-2017 10:24 AM

Have the government actually said it would have to be a photo ID, or is it just an assumption made in the article?
If it were to be photo ID then surely it would have to be made easy for those without passports or driving licenses to receive an ID card through the council, as people do for a blue badge.

DemolitionRed 19-05-2017 11:06 AM

The words I quoted were from the Tory manifesto, so its not just hearsay.

The Tories have always wanted a national ID card and I can only presume that this is a way of getting it.

Personally I don't like the idea. Every country that uses them have massive problems with identity fraud. Nobody, as yet, has been able to produce a national ID card that has IT competence and therefore, duplicate identities are common and encryption codes are constantly broken.

Other things about national ID cards are, they are expensive and yet it would be illegal not to carry one. The holder would be entirely responsible for loss, damage or even a faulty card. They Tories have suggesting a heavy fine of up to £1,000 if you fail to carry your card or fail to update it or renew it when its damaged.

Children up to the age of 18 wouldn't have one, immigrants wouldn't have one and it would be impossible for homeless people, because every time you move home, you get fined if you don't update your card.

Also, the cards have a built in tracking device so anyone with the authority to look, can find you, but they can't find terrorists if terrorists aren't British citizens. They can't find illegal immigrants because they won't have them and they can't find children if they go missing.

Its just another stealth tax. Raking it in off those who can ill afford and giving the government yet more control of the people its supposed to be serving.

joeysteele 19-05-2017 03:21 PM

If they insist on people having photo Id to vote, then no one should in a democracy who is old enough to,be denied their full right to do so.
So the Id if made compulsory should be provided free by the govt.

Otherwise scrap this badly presented plan altogether.
