Yeah some active members rarely/don’t even post in the Big Brother sections, they are only here the Serious Debates section...

Livia 07-04-2018 09:52 AM

All the people who never show their face in SD and yet have such strong opinions... and those who only go in if there's a problem. The only problem with SD is unfair modding and only from one mod. And that's the cause of this whole current problem, in a nutshell.

I don't see the issue there tbh, some active members only post in the Music section, most people originally posted in the BB sections but when they fell out of love with the show stayed on to post in other sections, if this was a BB/Chat forum it would be even more dead in off season than it is now

SD has the biggest clique mentality on the forum, you make one comment and it’s the same gang of people that attack you, I’m not surprised people don’t post in there

And if there was such an issue with one mod in particular, action would have been taken, but the fact is you don’t know who gives out infractions, warnings or bans, it’s all assumption

Tbh.

And let's not pretend getting rid of the debates section will suddenly eradicate all of the sniping that goes on. There's plenty in the chat area too which makes me feel less motivated to post there at times (one big problem on here is people using the chat thread to bitch about a confrontation they just had in another section, or even worse, about something they weren't even involved in).

I don't really use SN&D much and it definitely has its issues but I think it's definitely scapegoated a lot.

I also have an issue with the "use a politics forum" logic. Most forums I've seen have various sections far beyond the main area it was designed around and a section for news and serious discussions seems like a standard one. And if we were to get rid of sections because they're apparently irrelevant to Big Brother, Serious Debates certainly wouldn't be the only one to go.

i would replace it with just a News section where stories are posted and they can be discussed but it’s not like random threads where they’re like ‘I hate women, discuss?’ where it just delves into a mess

An honest and reasoned post, there has been a lot of finger pointing going on, people in glass houses spring to mind, we are trying to address the problems in SD which are not all about bans btw, and hopefully it will be resolved so everyone is happy.

Withano 07-04-2018 10:54 AM

The issue is, people go on to the threads, take no interest in the topic, read through it a bit, see its turned in to a bit of a fight, and join in with the fighting/defending the ones fighting.

Its a new-ish issue. This thread was first made back when the main issue was that the subforum had tens of very similar threads by the same people, and the large bulk of the convos there was along the lines of “FREEDOM OF SPEECH U SNOWFLAKE” but thats not really a thing anymore. Its steadily improving imo.

A politics subforum as well as a SD&N subforum. But i floated that idea when (genuinely) about 70% of the forum was about Corbyn.

Its a bit less relevant now, but I still think breaking that forum into two different elements would help.

I think news should be completely seperated from serious debates, like it used to be.

Jordan. 07-04-2018 11:53 AM

Put it in a social group of something, no one joins a low brow reality tv forum for a serious debate .

This forum is definitely more entertainment centred being a forum for Big Brother and other shows so I really don't see the need for a debating section.

That's just my two cents.

:clap1:

Literally no one joins this forum because of that section, it adds nothing to the site. I don't know why the admin/mods put themself through the drama of keeping it.

i was being hyperbolic sis but go off

T* 07-04-2018 12:06 PM

and here, im not causing drama/taking issue with the thread but it’s an example of a thread that asks a question for a debate, they do exist unlike what you said http://www.thisisbigbrother.com/foru...d.php?t=336827

Fetch The Bolt Cutters 07-04-2018 12:09 PM

i still think it needs to be axed bc i have it on ignore so it’s obviously not needed? if it was that important i would post in there all the time bc i’m the best member on the site

Greg! 07-04-2018 12:10 PM

No keep it I like it for the mess

That is not quite the same as I hate women, discuss,I didn't post in that particular topic, but if a forum member deems it worthy of discussing, so what? it seems to me there are a lot of people who never engage on that particular forum who have quite a lot to say about it, but they hate drama!

The nature of Debate is that people will argue their opinions, it's not called Serious Tea Party

this, for example, would need to be seriously debated

Kazanne 07-04-2018 12:40 PM

Why should it be culled ? most people calling for that don't even go in there.sometimes it's nice to have some adult talk, and threads with long posts and substance people don't have to come in there if they don't want to, I don't go in threads that don't interest me, I have also learnt a few things from SD,so no just because a few don't like it ,it shouldn't be spoilt for the ones that do,The forum would actually be a boring place off season if not for SD.
