I find it hard to believe a lawyer of Cherie Blair's standing referred to women as "ladies".
Suddenly we can't speak the truth about Africa? We're accused of being "white saviours" and helping Africa to make ourselves feel better because it's not that bad in Africa. Meanwhile we're watching adverts asking us for cash to dig wells, something we've been doing in Africa for about 150 years... while we watch an African child scoop water out of a stream that cattle is pissing in... we're asked to give money to charity to stop glaucoma, which can be caused by flies... while we're watching an African baby with flies crawling in and out of its eyes. I don't think most people understand the role of women in developing nations, as were asked to call them. Of course rape is a massive problem in Africa, it's used worldwide as a weapon of war and let's face it, Africa always has at least one war raging on the continent. Wars where they chop the hands, arms, legs off little children with machetes.... Life is not the same in Africa. And while people are willing to help, it seems the help of white people is not welcome. And God forbid someone like Cherie Blair should make a comment like this, which is probably true, or very near the truth. |
I don't think it was Cherie's comment that caused the backlash. More LT'S twisting of what she said.
That's if you're referring to the backlash here and not elsewhere. |

If Cherie meant that alot of these countries have lack of support and crimes aren't taken as seriously in these places , in fact some of these places treat women poorly and they have no rights .
And people behave like there's no rules or consequences for their actions, rape and murder and other crimes are more frequent in these third world countries but that doesn't mean every African man is a rapist .And not every African woman will be raped. We know a big epidemic in Africa is AIDS , education & medical care is minimal over there . There's more awareness now of the disease but its still a problem. |

The story is ain the opening post cut and pasted from a newspaper with a link, if you cant see past a headline then maybe SD and N is not for you|? |

Besides what's the story? Africans rape sometimes? So do men all over the world. Africans don't follow our standards of gender equality? Neither does most of the world. Even here it is still aspirational. It's not as if we eradicated rape or sexual coercion. So why feel superior? What is the actual story here? |
